I would love to have the talent that Marty has.. Watch and listen to how he backs up Kenny here.. Marty can do it all.. and he makes it look so easy...

With you on that one Man!

Thought I'd missed this thread, but I did post in relation to appreciation of the Mark Knopfler mention for Sultans. Pretty much any Knopfler would be cool to play perfectly.

I also nodded towards a couple of EVH numbers I particularly like, but in response to my man above - I'd love to be able to play note for note EVERY guitar piece from two Led Zep songs from their album Presence.

Achilles Last Stand and Tea For One.

Creams live version of Crossroads. The solos in that are just sublime.

That song is not that hard it is just the first part and abit around the middle that is hard. I have not learnt all of it myself i just practised the string skipping lick and then the run and bend part, to maybe help my picking i did not hybrid pick it i found it easier to just jump with the pick.

Maybe learn the slower parts if you like that song it can only advance your playing, i use to do that alot when i got frustrated when i started then gradually got the rhythm and the feel for the song, and could then get the harder parts going as well abit like one tackles a crossword puzzle.

    Good Luck!

There are so many I'd like to magically learn to play but if I can only choose one it would be Pork-U-Pine by Jeff Beck

Just got done watching this Tommy Emmanuel video. Excuse me, I have to go downstairs and throw all my guitars in the garbage.

    What a player! Just unbelievable.[/QUOTE]

He definitely has that effect on many players.

Yes he is one of my favourite accoustic guitar players, and is so fast he plays on a flatboard and i believe his action is set around 0.54 and i thought my action was low at 1.2.

Maybe get a guitar setup like him may help, but he looks like the kind man to still practise like mad even now very few can be like that.

This is pretty random, but there is an intro to a Reel Big Fish song called "Join the Club". It's not particularly hard and it's in my skill range, but every time I think about picking up a guitar I wish I had learned it.

Solsbury Hill, accurately and in tempo. All the way through. Cannot crack that nut, no matter what.

Man, this. And I'll take Kenny V if Marty's claimed, but jesus that b-bender. Saw them live 3 or so weeks ago and was stunned.

If I could learn one song, I'd like for it to be rhapsody in blue on the piano. I figure if I could hammer that one out in its entirety, I could probably fake the rest.

I'll go with Marty and Kenny also.

But there are three I would not want to play, much less hear again:

    "Freebird"
    "Layla"
    "Stairway to Heaven"

Too often played on Classic Rock radio. o_O
