The long scene in the middle of the film, too (no spoilers) was remarkable, I can't recall that technique ever being used in any movie I've seen, at least not to that extent. When Dassin was acting in his character's final scene in the movie, he said that he was thinking about his own experience being blacklisted (1948–1953), thinking about friends betraying friends. He said this in an interview in the extras on the Blu-ray.I agree on Dassin’s work. That ending scene, in particular, keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Interestingly, he also acts in the film, and not by design. Apparently the actor they wanted to play the safecracker was not available, and circumstances kinda forced Dassin to step into the role.
