I’ll take a late 1940’s to early 1950’s J-45...something around $5000 would be fine, thank you.
News flash. Here is the latest! I know, not humbuckers but when I wrote my original post, I meant to say I was looking for a sound that was not Fender single coils. I've never really given a P90 guitar a chance until now, but still potentially looking for some variation of a Gibson PAF.

an sg, easily.
I've always lusted after a Marauder, don't know why because I've never even seen one, never mind played one. And even though I don't like radical shapes, the Explorer's growing on me. Can't afford either of 'em so it's academic.
I’ve got a Gibson Les Paul Tribute gold top that I like.
When I can find the time, I’m going to install some first rate PAF clones and rewire it like a ‘59. I’m hoping that I’ll like it even more after that, but it ain’t bad now, and I liked the price.
I sold my 335. That was dumb. I wish that I had that one back. It funded a GAS purchase. That was an unfortunate decision.
Right now, I’m GASing for a Gretsch G6120T in orange and an Erlewine Lazer II in Candy Apple Red. But I’ve learned my lesson. No currently owned guitars will be sacrificed.
As for acoustics, I’ve got a Gibson Custom Shop Country Western that Mrs. Steerforth ordered up and bought for me, the round shouldered one like a Southern Jumbo with a natural finish, that is my favorite out of my acoustic herd.
I had a 2014 '70s Tribute and it was no good for my usage. The pickups needed loudness and a valve amp to get the best out of it. I couldn't oblige.
Les Paul Custom 'Black Beauty' with three humbuckers and no Bigsby... preferably from 1959, but I am open to other offers.
One of these & I'd be sorted -
only a little more f***** up .
GAS is inexcrutable....
Now, would be this one (R4 Custom Black Beauty):
I'm liking my ES-335 so far.
I know you said humbuckers, but my Korean Hamer Sunburst is all the "Les Paul" I'll ever need. So, if you told me I had have a Gibson. I'd take one o' these:
Second choice would be a similarly-appointed double-cutaway LP Junior.
There’s a 49 in Toronto in that range at the moment. So far I have resisted going to have a look, but the longer it stays for sale the more I can feel my resistance weakening.
