My sis and I where just swapping Vids recently.

She told me something I didn't know. His death was from a heart procedure that was normally safe in Spain or something.

Great song. I play the rhythm often when practicing and hack at the lead a bit--both from memory. I should try to learn what I can of the lead, since for me it's hard to improvise something that fast, other than brief flashes.

I tried to ape Alvin Lee so much as a kid my friends called me Kelvin Leed ( my name is Kevin).

My friend gets me to play the chords to this so he can rip the leads. I‘d rather play Green Grass and High Tides but I humor him:)

Now, I am going to show my age…in 1972 some mates and I worked and worked to get this song down. I played it on the ”new style” Les Paul (later called an SG), still have the guitar! The amp was a Marshall head I remember into a 4x12. What a great memory….it remains one of my all time favorite songs. Or course ours was a certainly recognizable rendition, but only a rendition….what talent he had…

You could not escape this song when it came out. It was on the radio all the time, and everyone I knew had the 8-track in their car. We all knew Ten Years After from their set at Woodstock, which was of course live and sounded like it. It was weird to hear them doing a song with actual good production. And a good song, too.

I saw an interview with Alvin Lee after one of his TV rock show appearances in the early '70's. He explained how to shift between major and minor mode solos without memorizing a new scale pattern. I latched on to the trick and immediately started playing more interesting lead guitar than my contemporaries. It was like having Youtube 50 years early.

Very nice blend of acoustic and electric guitar parts . There was a noticeable change in this album compared to their earlier ones IIRC as this was their first effort for Columbia.

I’d like to play both! May play Change the World this year? But, gotta add two more guitarists for Green Grass. Killer songs!
