All, I'm looking for some alder telecasters or esquires made famous bynotable players over the last 50 years or so. I can't think of any off the top of my head, and I'd like to access the collective wisdom here please.

I can't say for certain, but I'd guess any of Buck Owens' sparkle Teles with the rosewood boards in the 60s were likely alder. And then there's Robben Ford's:

    Hope it helps, CS

Ford's looks like a blonde, so it would be ash. If Olympic White, it could be alder. Page's looks like is was a blonde ash also. Andy Summers sunburst custom is alder and Keith Richard's black 75 custom is alder also. As far as I know, all the blondes were ash and from 59 on sunbursts and custom colors were alder. In the 70's they started doing sunbursts again is ash.

Strummer's white "I may take a holiday" esquire (1 May take a holiday? I never knew which it was) was also alder.

What was Dylans 1966 black telecaster?

And I would think that the telecasters played by Robbie Robertson were alder. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

    John Frusciante's bound telecaster?

Chris, this is the Tele Robben was playing the other night in Hollywood when I saw him with the RFB (second show) at the Catalina, first week on January.

Beautiful guitar, thanks for the post!

BTW, does anyone know what year this Tele is?

Much obliged, and sorry about the hi-jack!

    Robben's is alder.

I believe Mike Bloomfield's would have been Alder as well.

Good call on Steve Cropper...Brent Mason's probably is alder I'd guess?
