I think that looks good. There are so many options out there for shaving it down, or building it back up and putting an opaque finish on it (candy apple red, black, white, etc).

Paul Gilbert took some sort of guitar and shaped it into a Coronet type instrument and finished it in hot pink. He threw on super hot pickups and locking Kahler trem and made shredder machine. Your guitar looks to be a great candidate for custom metal guitar.

We all need one of those.

I stare at it constantly, it's not getting any better. I'm glueing some wood on it, I mocked it up with a smaller top bout and nub lower bout, the lower is just too f**cked up. Still that gourd shape and long stretch up to the neck. Help please photoshop people.
I will take a straight router bit to it, glue some wood on it and start anew. Or just buy a body, which would defeat the low budget intentions.

It's on hold for now, I'll work on the other guitar for a while and see how this one settles. Thanks again.

Meet Cap'n Spikey, I'm liking this a lot. But I know I opened a can of worms here. Ever hear the joke- A camel is a horse designed by commitee? Anyway lots of valuable proportion advice, well worth it

Looks like one of those early Alembic prototype guitars. Mount all the pickups on a huge brass cover plate, add an onboard effects loop and 'stratoblaster' booster and sell it to some rabid deadhead.

I took an art class many, many years ago. The thing I remember most is don't over do it, K.I.S.S.. I've seen/heard many examples of things overworked and pushed too far. My advice is to add some wood to the headstock and shape it to taste. Maybe three on a side tuners. Then step back and re-appraise the project. You might be a paint job from being done.

Now you've done it, Great!

What kind of wood is on the top? It's looking good as a natural, grain finish.

I think it looks pretty good actually. If you change anything I'd make the top horn the same as the bottom and like an earlier poster said give it an SG look.

I used to take art /design classes, once we practiced drawing curved lines for like 2 months before the professor told us why.
It's an all maple Ibanez RX 240, the previous owner stripped it down to the sealer on top, I think it was all black, looking at the sides. Looks kind of good now but wood tone isn't my thing. I used oak to block the trem hole, it's getting a top loader hard tail bridge, to keep it cheap and simple.
I hadn't thought about adding wood to the headstock.
I seek no more opinion, I'm getting confused. I think I'll try some research, look at lots of pics of guitars, print some templates and then take a flying leap.
