Well that would be in reference to gardens grown and tended to just for looks (and not, say, to produce food, feed local birds/insects., etc.). But yeah, let it grow a bit. Even some weeds are nicer-looking than what most people try (and often fail) to grow on purpose.

+1. Prefer winter. Shoveling snow is less of a burden. A lawn is never done.

I like mowing because that's about the only time I get to listen to music.

I used to feel that way about my long commute, a few jobs back.
Now my commute is 30 seconds, shower to living room, and THE VERY BEST music plays at will, all day long

I've been mowing since mid January. In Florida, the off season basically consists of December, because I don't want to mow over the Christmas light extention chords.

I mow my lawn every Monday barring unforeseen circumstances. I like it short, shorter than that, I mean short. I only leave it just long enough that it can survive and remain green. I have a very efficient watering system that keeps my yard green at very little expense. I've seen those "other" kinds of lawns, they are not "natural" looking they are ugly.

Being a long time TDPRI member I have to submit this Buck Owens tune. I must certify my old fart status.

I had the bare, ugly parts of my yard re-sodded last year. By the time it was actually sodded, the grass was already brown and dormant. But it is green now.

As Buster Poser alluded, I was afraid my water bill would go up. However, it's rained every day for two or three weeks now. It's very green now.

Blowtorch was discussing mowing too short. I believe each strain of grass has its own ideal mowing height. I have broad-bladed St. Augustine grass, which I have been told should be three inches high. I haven't even mowed my new grass in the front yard yet. It rains all the time.

    I have a battery-powered, otherwise self-propelled push mower.

I like it because it's a break from the computer. I've been working on the web for over 20 years now, it's nice to step away for a bit.
