A relative talked me into joining Facebook years ago. I lasted 2 days on there. Deleted my account, which was almost impossible.
I used to belong to The Gear Page until it was taken over by people who just want to debate and argue. I think most of the real musicians left as well.

This is the only forum I visit and I am spending less time on it. I can see why the OP has burned out. My opinion is he belongs to way to many forums.
Come back if and when you want to. Enjoy your time pursuing more rewarding things.
    Mike

I used to belong to the Bass Fishing Home Page. It became ugly political. I and most folks wanting to discuss fishing left. It has since died an inglorious death. I still converse with a few folks on a private Facebook page. Not the same. It was a really good sight for a long time and then died an ugly death.

I like when people equate their online life with say....a heroin addiction.

    Get well soon!

"the sabbatical I get. The announcement of "Hey everyone, attention, I'm leaving now"... I do not."

I think it's a courtesy, really: it prevents speculation:

    "Is he okay?"

"Did he become a monk and take a vow of silence?"

"Perhaps he lost a bet and had to move to Kentucky, where there's no electricity."

"Did his wife kill him because she found a new guitar hidden in the basement?"

    You know...that sorta stuff.

I always assume the 4th scenario. For reference, if nobody sees me on here for a 4+ month span, that 4th scenario halpenened.

I strongly advise anyone needing time away from the internet to do so. It can be grinding and distracting.

I think it's pretty narcissistic to assume people would even notice one's absence- out of a forum of, how many members?
Face it, we all enlighten amuse and entertain ourselves, mostly.

I divorced facebook 3 years ago and haven't been back since, and I don't miss it a bit. And yes, it was extremely difficult to delete my account.

Happy trails! There’s nothing wrong with taking a break.

I’ve cut back lots on online activity - this place is my only real participation. I check my email once a week or so. I’m so glad I don’t have to do all that stuff for work anymore.

It's quite possible that he has a number of folks online that he regularly converses with. He may even consider them friends. I don't see the point in making disparaging remarks about the guy. I suppose that's just how you amuse and entertain yourself.

a self imposed break can be a good thing and can be a great thing

the courtesy of letting the populace know is a nice gesture

enjoy and come back when you're ready. like dkmw said, "Happy Trails"

I am not making disparaging remarks about anyone. New guy :p

I just don't get the point of saying "Hey, I'm'a gonna leave" vs just simply leaving

    I'm back.
And yes, I'll take all due criticism for that dramatic departure.

I guess it was Facepage that I really needed a break from, and so (in an alcohol-influenced state), I threw the babies out with the bathwater.

I really don't get sensory overload here on tdpri, and I truly do enjoying posting and contributing.
    So, please accept my apologies.

I'd like to carry on here, and I'll just choose to avoid the political chaos and nonsense that is Facebook instead.

    :)
