Some people yearn for a beater Tele. Maybe what we need is a beater life. A parallel life where you can just enjoy the moment; where the mistakes you make can’t have any negative consequences worth worrying about, and you won’t mess up your precious real life.

When I wanted a beater Tele, I got one. I liked it so much that I fixed it up and now it’s so nice that it’s not remotely a beater Tele. That would probably happen with my beater life too. I’m not a millennial.:D

Thats probably a good episode for a Black Mirror in Netflix.. LOL

but the thing is, like you said, you got a beater tele that you liked so much.. but what if you liked your beater life, so no more coming back to regular life then..

I went for the beater life and later on a replacement for my beater acoustic. I would not trade either for anything now.

Life is as good as you make it in your head.

It is true that I can't go back, but do I care? Nope.:)

My friend has a beater life. I don't see him much anymore.

I think what happened is what I said ... your "beater life" is so nice that it's now precious. :D

Aside from retirement, you have two choices:

You can be a trust funder or you can be a bum.

Trust funders have problems I can't afford.

Bums can't afford to have problems.

    Different kind of beater.

I grew up in a beater household. The old man was charming in public and an anal pore in private. Still is. Utterly unrepentant.

The problem with beater lifes is they creep into your real life.

Did that, work in progress, sorta like a partscaster. IMHO Society places FAR to much emphasis on perfection, “just so” “Spot on” etc. Sometimes ( most times I have found) good enough is good enough.

If anyone thinks they're not living a beater life, and that they're in control, and that their life is somehow a clean and tidy version of existence, a life without dings and dents, they're kidding themselves.

On the other side, there is no real beater life. Everything has consequences. You just need to learn from your dings and dents, and forgive yourself for the little ones - and ultimately the big ones, too. Although that's harder. And you don't forget them.

I have enjoyed a lifetime of driving mostly beater cars. I seem to project vibes of “I would like to oversee your old car’s final years.” Thanks to my grandpa, I was at one point the owner of two Chevy Malibu wagons simultaneously. Once even my ex-girlfriend’s sister gave me her old diesel Rabbit when she moved.

    I will drive anything.

Ironically, when I was in gigging bands, I was transporting a beater 4 x 12 cab around in either a Chevy Sprint (my one new-car purchase) or a Jeep CJ-5. Nowadays I drive a minivan and have a tiny bass rig and a 1 x 12 guitar amp...and don’t gig.

I may have a life beater shirt left over from the 80s. If I can find it you can have it.

EDIT: Now we just call them tank tops. Same reasons we call portable stereos "boom boxes" now, and nothing else.

    I want a do-over button-down life.

    Sick of the beater one.

Join everything there was to join in high school.

4 years in college with fraternity involvement then graduate.

Corporate 9-5 right out of school.

    4,000 sq ft colonial

    Frequent warm-weather vacay’s and/or lake cottage.

Kids coming in for the holidays.

    Eyeing retirement right now.

Still, wouldn’t trade family/people in my life now for anything.

I’ve recently started having a bit more of a “beater life” professionally, and I couldn’t be happier.

The money’s a little tighter, but my chest isn’t (translation: I can breathe and I’m not as uptight).
