I guess if you’re playing a formal gig in the afternoon, the white. If you’re playing a later In the evening gig, black.

Hope you've learned your lesson about asking a bunch of luna-casters their opinions on ANYTHING! ;)

    Single-ply, 5-hole white, no question.

If it must be black, make it a gloss lacquered Garolite ("Bakelite") one.

LOL! I’m not a fan of gimmicky pickguards, but that might actually look awesome on this!

At least with the Tele in the OP he can take off the pick guard easily. It only has 5 screws instead of the modern 8 screw layout and there is also no neck pick up height adjustment screws attached to the PG which are underneath. May I suggest a 3rd pick guard like a custom one as I did to the pick guard on my Squier Standard Strat with oil paints.:)

I only like black pickguards on the butterscotch blond teles. Otherwise it is usually white or Tortoiseshell depending on the color.

Well... I certainly didn’t expect such a ‘spirited’ response, or so many!

I changed to a 3-ply black humbucker neck (as seen in my profile), I'm glad I did just to see, but I want the old parchment guard and lipstick back.

There's something right about a slightly off-white guard on 2-tone burst.
Although my burst is a bit more green-hued than others, so the black guard looks a bit too dark and a bit bland in person.

When I want a "white" pickguard, I tend to prefer anything but plain white. Eggshell, parchment, mint green...

I haven't found a color combination where I want plain, stark white.

Thanks, note the subtle bevel in the Fender Bakelite pickguard. That said the Fender Bakelite pickguards did require a bit of fitting in the neck pocket area with a Dremel sanding drum for the screw holes to line up, so the pickguard tucks up tighter around the neck. Not much but thought I would mention.

Try a tortoise pick guard while you're experimenting. They look amazing on a burst.

I like white and its variants (mint, parchment, white pearloid) all better than black. And tortoise shell is just kryptonite for a guitar's looks, in my eyes. Tortoise shell pickguards are not for me at all.

Put on what you like best. Or swap em in and out every few weeks until you get tired and pick one. :)
