Bevel edge one ply guards never look good.
Guitar pics taken in dim light never look good either.
Get a one ply black guard and a bigger light bulb!

I have to say that I'm torn. They both look really good. My rule of thumb is 'don't try anything else and you won't run into these issues'. Of course, then you never find something that really moves you and makes it look perfect. o_O

    White.

The black doesn't look right to me. It's not what it's "supposed to" look like. Plus, it makes the whole guitar look too dark.

I'm not a big blackguard fan, but I do like that!

The correct answer for a sunburst tele is pearloid. On the other hand, for a sunburst strat you would of course go with the tort pickguard.

Those are the correct choices, with no exceptions! ;)

I know white on burst is the classic look & all that, but I just can't get over how odd it looks. You have a nice, dark natural grain and then *BLAM!!* this big white blotch shows up in the middle to ruin the flow.

I get the whole contrast thing too, but black on burst looks much more natural.

The Bakelite is a hard rigid material, more like having an ebony pickguard.

And don't forget to use matching black screws. Chrome screws with a matte black guard is like white gym socks with a tuxedo. If we're going to accessorize let's do it right.

The white one does it for me. I will say that a nice black bakelite one would look a lot
better than that plasticky beveled thing.

I like the white or parchment, single ply no matter what you choose if it was me paying for setup. Both look nice. I like the satin pictured above.
