I Received A Taste Of My Own CL Medicine (Kinda)

An amp I've been shopping for I discovered on CL from another part of the country. Listing has been up for two months. Contacted seller, asked if would be interested in shipping and a couple other details about the amp. Seller replied promptly, said shipping was possible, and clearly answered the details. I replied that I would buy the amp for the asking price if seller would pay for shipping(guesstimate 5% of asking price).

Crickets(boomer phrase) currently known as ghosted. I've never suffered CL fools, ignoring/non replying to nonsense, so maybe this is my comeuppance. But an offer that close to asking seems like would have one response. Just no buyer pays shipping, or offer to split shipping. Oh well.

Edit: This is purely a GAS purchase for me, so I'm taking as a sign I should not be spending this money.

You told the seller you'd buy it for 5% less than he wanted. This is why seller ignores u now.

I usually price my cl ads so that I can accept an 80% offer. Asking price less shipping was a reasonable offer, and a simple response would have been very easy - "sorry, can't take the extra loss, thanks for the offer." Now you know how responsive the seller is BEFORE they have your money. Don't want to know the result if the amp wasn't as described...

Figure shipping an amp is going to be about $40. At your estimate of 5%, that would mean that you're looking at an $800 amp. Now if I was selling a $2000 amp, I would cover $40 for shipping...but not $100. I guess the guy could have replied.

I probably wouldn't have replied either. Shipping ain't cheap. Figure shipping an amp is going to be about $40. At your estimate of 5%, that would mean that you're looking at a $4000 amp and I doubt that.

Your arithmetic is a bit off! If 5% is $40 then 100% is $800.

I’m not great at math but the amp is $2,000 and I was thinking $100 max shipping. If $40 shipping then my offer is even better.
As for reply my offer seems close enough to negotiate back. I probably would pay the shipping in negotiation, but we’ll never know.

my question would be: how did you offer to pay for the amp?
myself, I wouldn't agree to ship an item if it wasn't 100% paid for up front. cash in my pocket.
I wouldn't ship it for free either.

When seller didn’t reply I just took it as sign this wasn’t meant to be. I’m not sure how we would have handled payment outside of Reverb/EBAY situation. I would have paid up front.

"Beware offers involving shipping" is in play here. The seller was/is just following the guidelines.

Shipping amplifiers is a hassle, and not cheap. I bet if you would have offered to cover the shipping, instead of expecting him to eat it, you'd have your amp right now.
