taking a year off to 'woodshed' is pretty silly, at the age of 60. How many years do you actually think you have left?
A "band" is a third rate carnival with a complete halfwit calling the shots.
IF - YOU CAN'T LEAVE. @ 7:00 PM
& BE IN BED @ 2:00 AM - ALL YOU ARE
CREATING IS ADVERSARIAL INCOME.

A waste of precious time that is a losing
proposition EVERY TIME.
The ONLY thing WORSE than commiting
to a Band is being committed.

99% of the time The Busker on the corner
with a modicum of TALENT does better.

Sounds like a pain in the ass. In your position I would have quit as well. The music may have ben fun, but being forced to dress a certain way ? No say in the material or arrangements? Essentially losing money or screwing up your private life due to distance?

I would have quit in a heartbeat. I've been a sideman for 45 years (well, "was" until medical issues forced me to quit playing on stage a few years ago) and only once was I forced to play only specific parts on particular songs with no input into arrangements - AND forced to play only a specific instrument color-matched to others.

I quit after 3 rehearsals. It was absurd.
