That takes sacrifice, discipline, and smarts. The world can go to s*** and you'll still have a roof over your head.
    Good job !

I divorced almost forty years ago. I paid off my mortgage about twenty-six years ago. I'd have to flip a coin as to which caused the greatest sense of elation. The sense of freedom and independence in both those events is incredible. Yes, I still have property taxes, insurance and maintenance expenses, but those are minimal compared to a mortgage payment. Congrats......and congrats on your new future ex-wife. ;)

    Don't congratulate yourself too soon.

These Numbskulls in New Orleans, doubled the assessment on my house there for no known reason. Then, their whole system got hacked and they lack the wherewithal to correct their error. Once I pay this giant bill, you can rest assured they'll never want to go back to the old value.

You think there's no connection between the abject lack of competence in certain cities' (Balt, Atlanta, New Orleans) bureaucracies, and their vulnerability to being hacked? Really. Ya'll know better than that.

California still has Proposition 13. It keeps property values low. For a state with High taxes, California homeowners get a break with home ownership. States like Texas with lower overall taxes have property taxes much higher than California. It’s sort of a give one get one process.

Congratulations! May will be my final payment. I haven't bought a guitar since I retired 5 years ago. Yep, I'm browsing. I think I just need a parlor guitar for my parlor. Then I'll attempt to finish the remodel that's been on hold for too long.

    Congrats.

I remember when I paid off the house I figured I was going to have so much extra cash to play with. But that never happened. Where did all my extra cash go? If I still had house payments today, I'd be struggling to stay afloat. Something ain't right here.

    Good for you!

    It's a liberating feeling :).

    That's step one.

Next step, pay off the credit cards.

Get the blood-suckers off your back.

Don't labor under any false illusions, the objective of the blood-sucking financial industry is to suck up every bit of your revenue and keep you in debt and working for the rest of your life.

There is no joy in being a wage slave ;).

Congrats, It gives me a small high to hear of your accomplishment.
That was always my dream to pay my house off, after a few failed relationships and the following depression, loss of income, manipulation of property prices etc I owe over three times what it did on my house 28 years ago. I think ive paid for the place maybe 4 times over.
It's nice to hear that it can be done.:)

So many hurdles have been put in place where i live to prevent debt free home ownership as a single person now it's nearly impossible to achieve.

No more tax break unless you have a huge mortgage since the standard deduction is very high now.
