out of my dozens of guitars, the tone of this one cannot be beat.
this was after raising those polepieces up to the sky- before that, it was unremarkable

Excellent suggestion. And if you're feeling crafty, and want an high quality guitar for around $600 total, buy a kit from Precision, they are excellent! Here is the link.

I finished this one a few months ago.

The current crop of Jrs and Specials are fantastic guitars. I made a pig of myself. IMG_3058.jpeg

I’m a bit biased, but if your budget allows...

I'd like to try the Reverend 390 or 290 models.
A full nollow can be cool though, but you need to be able to live with the feedback. I had a ton of trouble using my ES225 at a gig, even a low volume gig unless I aimed my amp away from me, but then I had to up the volume to hear well!

I have this 2015 Les Paul Jr.--the ones with the robot tuners, wide neck, zero nut, and alnico pole P90s. Sam Ash was blowing them out at $400 a few years ago because everybody hated them (with a shiny nitro finish and a hard case too!) It is my least expensive guitar, it is heavy, and it has that ugly headstock logo, but it is the best sounding guitar I own. And every time I gig with it or bring it to practice I get compliments on how it sounds. And I've never missed the neck pickup on it. Just a roll of the volume or tone control gives me a huge range of tones.

I had one and sent it back tried a second one same thing, problem was the horns were not sanded on the inside facing the neck and was left rough cut, beats your fret hand up.

For me, an R4 Les Paul would be the ultimate P90 guitar, but, I think those Yamaha Revvstar guitars are the best bang for the buck P90 guitars out there.(just watch Chris Buck)

I think on a guitar that cheap that if it bothered me, I’d just sand it.

Squier Custom II sits happily at the top of "WhytheheckdidIsellthat Mountain" for me. And the guy I sold it to is in no way letting it go. If you see one for sale. I don't very often. (A close second is the Epiphone 56 Les Paul Goldtop--mine was black--which was also very good.)

my ‘74 Special. Someone swapped the P90s for some overwound crappy Hot Rail type. It sounded ok as a slide guitar but I’m slowly converting it back to a real guitar
Needs pots, caps, & proper pickups

Yeah but when they first came out they were $799. Should not have to sand at that price...which is what I got it at.
