I watched the whole thing and audio taped parts with my boom box in front of the TV speaker. I mainly just wanted the see The Who. I waited all day, they finally go on opening with “My Generation” and, IIRC, just as Roger sings “why don’t you all fade away” the video transmission cuts off!

The other highlights for me that day were Eric Clapton, The Pretenders, U2, Dire Straits, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and the Led Zeppelin reunion.

I don't need a vintage poster, walking by a mirror clues me in.
Some days just rolling out of the rack is a reminder. That’s why I go to the bathroom with no lights on. No reflections to scare me not remind me.

It’s hard to fathom this amount of music put together (Farm Aid & Live Aid) with the relatively lack of hi tech back then as compared to today.

My then-fiancée and I watched a lot of it — at her parents’ house to start with, later at a party somewhere. I remember Quo kicking it all off, I remember the Beach Boys, George Thorogood, Dire Straits playing Money For Nothing with Sting, Cindy Lauper, Queen (of course), Bowie cutting his set short so they could screen the Cars’ Drive video, Phil Collins playing the same two songs in London and in Philadelphia, the mass singalong of Do They Know It’s Christmas (although it was July), the Bowie / Jagger video of Dancing In The Streets (made in such a rush that the track for the video doesn’t have the horn overdubs on it yet), Led Zeppelin… I don’t think we kept watching the American show till the end because I probably had to get the last train home from Greenock. 😀

On Sunday this concert will have been 40 years ago...

40 years before that WW2 was ending and that felt like it occurred a fortnight after the Viking Invasion to my teenage brain.

Live Aid sometimes feels like a few years ago, but I've got grandkids now, one of which will be at high school next year.
I can only conclude that in my head, I'm still a teenager despite the ear and nasal hair providing evidence to the contrary.

As an aside, who else watched it and what acts did you enjoy?
They're singing "Old Folks's Boogie" by Little Feat now.

Who is “Young” in the smaller print - right after Kenny Rogers ?

And is the 1985 Farm aid the one where van Hagar made its debut? And was it also the one where I would’ve seen the T-bird’s? Or was the T-bird’s one 1986 ?

I spent the day in the dojo waving a katana around. Seemed a better way to spend my time.

Those amps will probably take someone out I’m sure . They’re light enough that you could really get some force going as you’re swinging it around. But where did you get the time machine?

A sunny day I remember, so probably pleasant on the 'Clyde Riviera'.
I taped it all but also watched it live on TV up until The Who came on because I had a date that night; a BYOB at a cafe on Byres Rd, which was very quiet for a Saturday.
Got back to my flat in Garnethill that night to find my flatmate was having a full-blown Live Aid party with the video recorder hooked up to the hifi.

I wasn't much of a Queen fan until I watched them play that day, I think they stole the show.

Glad I’m not the only one with the ear/nasal sprouts. I had to shave down the top line of facial hair under my nose to get a good seal on my diving mask. My daughter pointed out my nose hairs are now visible.

Thank you, mini-me.
