... why would you have $454 worth of engraving done to a $400 guitar, and then try to sell it?

I might do something like that to something I was going to keep. It's mine, I'll spend as much on it as I want because I love it. But I'm not going to try to pass those costs onto someone else. I'm afraid this guy is in for some disappointment.

Yeah, he'd be better off putting the stock stuff back on it and selling it for $400. Ain't nobody gonna touch a used MIM for $900.

That's probably more like a $600 used guitar. It looks like an FSR version of a Classic Series / Classic Player with hardshell case.

Your point is still 100% correct though.

He wasted a lot of $$$ on that "El Dorado engraved hardware" if he thinks he will recover the costs in a sale. He should put the stock hardware back on and keep the engraved stuff for a future guitar.

The Muy Grande is a good PU. He won't recoup the cost of that either.

Unfortunately in my experience I find that very few people keep the original parts to anything when they upgrade or put aftermarket parts on something. Not to say that some do (I do) but it seems most don't.

There have been many things I have almost bought, but in the end passed on because they didn't have the original parts.

Maybe the sparkly engraved stuff is meant to distract us from the Antigua colour scheme.

    .

It looks nice, but not $900 nice. All the changes are added parts. Not like he carved the body or the neck or actually ruined something. Break it all down and sell separate parts.

However, he's only a few more upgrades away from getting that price though. Find a used MIA neck and MIA body to finish the last upgrades --

    Then .... "profit" ..?.. o_O

I had a five-piece asswood bodied '92 toploader refretted and converted to string-thru.

It was a labor swap though.

    People upgrade the lowliest things.

I've seen worse antigua versions than that CL guitar.

I do like the sharp edges on that thing.

I always wondered who bought all those engraved parts .

re: the pickups: if you didn't keep the originals, you would be better off pulling the Rio Grandes and replacing with some MIM pups from Reverb.

It must be because Fender has introduced so many more expensive MIM guitars into the line, but I see WAY overpriced MIM guitars on the craigslist now all the time. They don't have to have fancy engraving to be priced that way either.

Bad decision maker. First they chose antiqua, then they had to make an antiqua look as good as possible, but of course that is impossible, so now they are trying to recoup from their bad decision making.
