I don't buy a Powerball ticket every time but I bought one Saturday. Then Sunday I went to wash the car and I think the ticket must have fallen out on the carwash floor. It was hours later when I realized it and going back to look would have been useless.

So now if it turns out that the place where I bought the ticket sold the winning ticket but nobody claims it, well...I'll always wonder.

Did you pick the numbers if so get a another

Maybe you’ll get contacted from the person that found it at the car wash

Maybe I have it, yup I’m holding it for ransom...

Wait a minute that’s stupid... I’m cashing er in!

And I thought I was a generally paranoid person....

Don’t worry about it. You haven’t changed your probability of winning losing the ticket.

I cannot judge as I’ve had my own vices but I can’t fathom the vices of shopping/gambling

At least the others have an immediate physical/chemical reaction

Well.... I guess gambling does the same thing in a way

It’s just not for me, yes I have loathed myself at times

About the odds of getting bit by a shark, well...we had four or so shark bites this year

    Still probably comparable

Edit, had to look it up, If it’s a six number lottery it’s 1 in 13 million

1-5 million get bit by a shark, who would have thought

Is there a major winner every time? I know that Powerball doesn't always go off here in Oz. When that happens the prize pool jackpots until there is a winner.

I play specifically for the feeling of self-loathing. I'd say it's the main appeal. Sometimes I buy a random ticket. Minutes before the drawing, I look at it and memorize the numbers. And then, just as they're about to draw the first number, I put it in the shredder. So on the outside chance that my numbers come up, there's absolutely nothing that can be done about it.

Same here, it can go on a while accumulating until someone actually wins, when it gets real high that’s when people start buying tickets like crazy

I have stupid luck not the financial kind so I don’t pay too much attention to it

And if you don't buy a ticket the odds are even worse.

same, been on many a hedonistic night but the times I’ve sat in a casino staring into the void it’s just like “I don’t get this,” and only end up spending 10 of the 100 I pulled out to dedicate to it.

I’m the same. Once in grad school we took a road trip to Vegas. First thing I did was lose ten hands of blackjack in a row. $200 in maybe five minutes, the least fun that has ever been had with $200 outside of being mugged. Never gambled a cent since.

The odds are incomparably worse if you don’t buy a ticket, though your chance of winning if you buy a ticket is almost equal to zero.
