    Which Bassman Is This?

I have a chance to get this for really cheap, but I'm not really sure what it is.

The rear shot makes it look like a single 15 because the floor tiles measure out to less than 24" but my main concern is the horsepower.

I cant see what it says underneath "BASSMAN". I understand there were some 55 Watt, an 85 a 100(+) Watt.

Can we count tubes or knobs and figure out what this actually is?

I'd probably buy a Bassman 10 for that if it was in good shape. If I did, I might spend more to put it in a head cabinet and ditch the 4x10 closed back combo cabinet. But that might not be necessary. Bassmans (men?) are great amps. I have a 1967 Bassman head that might not be too much different from that amp, and it's a really satisfying amp.

OK price, these are heavy and have some oddities, they are cleaner than most other Bassmen and would not be my first choice for harp, the sound NOTHING like a tweed Bassman.. They make a nice studio amp for bass and/or vintage keys, OK w/ guitars, if you are going for a clean sound, or use pedals. You might look for a Traynor Bass Master combo it's 1x15 but could take a 12 w/a Weber step down ring, same money same anvil like weight. Better harp/guitar tone.

The Ten is a bit of a mutant. I wouldn't even call it a "real" Bassman. Seems it came about by disabling some of the punches when forming a Super Reverb chassis.

    They're heavy.

They have minimum gain on tap.

    Did I mention they're heavy?

    They have weird speakers.

Save the chassis. Throw the rest of it out. Bear in mind it's going to need quite a bit of re- work to be useful.

That's one of the o.k. ones. No goofy hum balance pot. I figure it's a '72 or so.

I used a Bassman Ten (stock) for some tracks on an album about 20 years ago.

Used my Les Paul with a Duncan JB in the bridge, and literally turned every single knob on the amp on 10.

It sounded 100% like AC/DC’s Back in Black album. I mean... freaking nailed it.

Good thing they don't make it anymore; all the women's libbers would demand it be called a "Bassperson"!

    "Non-treble person"... please

    Or, perhaps "Treble-challenged person"

Don't know much about it... but I dig it.

4 10's I am sure gives it some spatial sound. Does look like a heavy thing.

I'd say if you use it for bass and it sounds good with guitar pedals;maybe. This is no a late 50's Bassman tone nor a 60's head and that is probably what you think this does. It probably is not worth the hassle unless you get it for $200.

They have 32-ohm 10" bass speakers. They're either the same, or at least very similar to, Ampeg SVT speakers.

And yes there's not much grind to be had here. It's still pretty clean even when you crank it. Kind of like a non-reverb Princeton-Amp in that regard.

Sounds pretty darned good with bass.

The first pic gives away that the top two speakers are long gone.
