I've seen every episode of every season of the old TG. watched the first episode of the Grand tour last night, and it is indeed the same show. The BBC's lawyers heads must be exploding. Those guys really know how to add insult to injury.

Yeah, I watched it here just after midnight Thursday. In contrast to the new Top Gear that the BBC had shown here a few months back Grand Tour was head and shoulders above it..I was entertained even though some parts of it didnt work as slick as it should have done.. good to see the lads back though.

Not allowed to use "the stig" or his likeness. Closed face helmet that doesn't talk.

So they used an open face helmet and a driver that talks too much!

I thought the opening at "Burning Van" was classic.

Not available down under until next month. Seriously thinking of VPN providers.

Loved it! Especially "the American" who thought everything was communist.

So it appears that maybe the Top Gear guys actually fired the BBC, instead of the other way around. Good on them.

I have been very anxiously awaiting the debut of the program and watched it as soon as I possibly could. I got out of it exactly what I had hoped I would. Looking forward to next week's installment!! I wish them much success, and frankly, I think they'll have it whether I wish for it or not. Some of the tweeks they had to make to GT to set it apart from TG make it "fresh enough" to win new fans but not so fresh as to alienate longtime fans of the Clarkson / Hammond / May Top Gear. That kind of thing is easy to talk about, more difficult to conceptualize, and not exactly easy to do. Nice to have a video celebration of male-ness and internal combustion back !!

I'm a big fan of Top Gear but I wasn't impressed by the first episode of Grand Tour. I thought the humour was lame and contrived, especially the 'celebrity death' section and the trio's chemistry was nowhere near as pronounced as in their previous incarnation. GT was good in parts but there's plenty of room for improvement.
Early days, though... perhaps the formula is finding its own level in a new test tube
