I'd add my vote to "run what ya brung". I don't like the feel of LPs. I really got nothing against the sound of em' but I've played Fender (style) single coils all my life and I'm not changing. Any music I play on guitar gets played on a Fender. (or acoustic)

Play that LP. It'll play any kind of music you want it to...Honest!

I think that's just the regular ol' stock humbucker in his LP, and Clint's just playing to fit the song. What the heck is he thinking?! ;)

Have you tried adjusting the pup heights? As clones go, Xaviere's aren't the worst. You should be able to get a good full tone out of it.

I love the Bill Lawrence stuff. I've put them in most of my builds and they are my favorites.

A guitar has nothing to do with what kind of music you play. Saying you have to play a telecaster to play country is just plain silly. The player makes the guitar work or not work. Its just a machine.

Turn them anp knobs. Every guitar I've owned required some amp adjustment even if its one lp to the next one.

This. I have no experience with the GFS guitars, but my Squier Affinity Tele had 500k pots in it, and it was extremely bright. A lot of the cheap Chinese guitars have these 500k mini-pots in them. If that's the case with yours, 250k pots will tame that high end and get you closer to a decent Fender-ish sound with some body.

They also make Teles with HBs. And there's no reason you can't use an LP (or SG) for country anyway.

Thanks guys, for helping me sort this out. I'm going with the BL pups and amp tweaks. I just finished a session with the Tele and it's slowly growing on me.

And thanks for not bashing the LP. Some boards do...

Rock to country? Do you mean real country or the diluted horrible pop rock they call country now days? Throw a humbucker in your Tele and you will be alright....or...In my Strat I went from single coil to Humbucker to Lace sensors now.I love the lace sensors , it thickened up my sound quite a bit.

By country, I mean the diluted horrible pop rock they call country now days. It's a paying gig. Lots of them.

    What amp? A Marshall JCM800 with a 4X12 slant.

It's up to you but you might not like any Tele sound for country through it.
