I hope Ovation is friendlier than Gibson because....

I wonder why anyone would even want to copy those Ovation guitars. They were marketed well, and they sold many, but they were among the most horrible guitars ever. They were supposed to sound like an acoustic, but they never ever even came close.

Ovations have a great, unique sound. Own 2 Adamas, killer sound.

Plugged in they sounded better than most acoustic A/Es at the time, and the necks were really comfy for folks coming in from the electric side.

The one I used to own had a neck very much like an electric, which worked out well for me as I was (am) primarily an electric guitarist.

I'm with you. Breadwinner is my most favorite guitar ever, and while I've had 3 in my hands over the years, back when you could find them for $450 to $600, I was never able to take one home. I was excited to see Eastwood take up the banner, but at $800 I couldn't swing that one either.

When the original “balladeer” styled guitars first became popular i scoffed at first at the bowl body but then I played one and really liked it. They had great action for an acoustic.

Then they just seemed to vanish.

Hehehe here's a 'review' from the Thormann site:

    Glenn from Virginia on 2020/02/14

First, I own 16 Harley Benton guitars and basses...love 'em all. My wife is the musician....I'm a beginner bassist and I bought this for myself to dabble in guitar and learn some chords so that I can better relate my bass playing to what the band is doing. Wanted a classical with wider nut and neck so I could more cleanly fret the chords while learning. This guitar sounds and plays quite nicely, and has become a favorite of my wife too (who ironically says she likes a narrow fretboard). It really is an outstanding value and a nice looking round back guitar....I have no idea how they can sell this for what they charge. The quality is very good, fret ends ok. The wood veneer designs glued on could use some minor sanding and oiling to be perfect. Really like this guitar, as well as all my other Harley Bentons. Outstanding value...just ordered 4 more HB's....nice work Thomann!

16? Really? I have to ask why. And just bought 4 more so now 20? 20 HB guitars? Why?
