Well their instruments are certainly inexpensive.

Yeah, and it's a far more blatant copy of an Ovation than the guitars that Gibson has sued others for producing. Not faulting H.B., I'm just wondering how long they'll be able to make these.

You could buy one in each colour and not break the bank! I like the look of the blue one... but I wonder what the playability of such a cheap guitar is. Someone get one and let us know!

Nope - Harley Benton is a legit company. But I noticed that their Ovation "influence" is much more than subtle...

Those HBs have ABS plastic backs, which is rather different than the fiberglass composite used by Ovation. I have to believe that would impart rather different tonal properties. The sound samples were rather unimpressive...

They either had some agreement (unlikely or they might have mentioned it) or they just did it and are waiting to see what happens. Copying an Ovation isn't like copying a Les Paul or a Fender, as that's been done a zillion times. Not too many guitars.... or none, exactly... look like an Ovation.

I mean, they even got the headstock shape!!

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Ovation hasn't been a top-brand guitar in decades; they might be smiling right about now.

Thomann are dealers for Ovation, PRS, Rickenbacker. Gibson and Fender. The also sell copies of each of those brands under their house brand Harley Benton. No one is suing the number one European dealer. Especially given that they are the second largest dealer in the world after Guitar Center.

“Harley Benton guitars are manufactured in around 20 factories in the Far East in China, Indonesia and Vietnam.“ The German company is an importer, not a manufacturer...

And it's much harder to fullfill a copyright infrigment lawsuit in Europe.

Cease and desist in common law country have terrible dissuasive effective due to absurd justice price.

Design and PAT are not the same thing here and in order to be recognized as such they need to be legally distinctible in EU.

If they're not recognized as such, you'll need to fullfill a case in each country due to justice sovereignty.

By the way European administration and CJEU ruled a case providing precision limiting shape protection.

I'll gladly pay Harley Benton prices for an asian Breadwinner knockoff. $800, not really.

Playability is hit or miss IME. My 12 string was fairly decent out of the box, my mahogany body acoustic was unplayable until I worked it over thoroughly. Had it been a U.S. supplier I'd have returned it. Very pretty guitar, though.
