There seems to be a lot of ya'll here that like and use P-90s in your guitar.

However, I'm the type of player that absolutely hates them. Maybe it's probably because I've never played a guitar that had them installed but - I also just don't like the look of them in a Tele.....am I nuts?

Do you have an aversion to bars of soap?

They don't have a great look but chrome dog ear on a Casino looks ok

    Great sound!

No tony trout. I too hate the look of p90's on pretty much any guitar.

The only guitar where they even look somewhat acceptable is a Les Paul but humbuckers look better.

they don't look very tele-ish, it's true. I like the way they sound though. The directness and bite of a single coil with the fatness of a humbucker

They're classic for a reason. Single coil detail and crispness with the girth of a humbucker. You owe it to yourself to try them out. Use your ears, not your eyes.

I don't see anything wrong here:

I used to think P-90s looked dorky. A couple of years ago, I had a chance to play a early 60's LP Jr through an AC30. To paraphrase someone else's description of a similar experience, it was like being a 14 year old with a singing bikini girl on my lap. Oddly enough, from that moment on, I thought P-90s were the coolest looking pickup ever.

You lot need to get out more often. There's a lot more in the world worth hating than a guitar pickup.

You can use you a Gibson P-94 if you need a HB size and similar look. I don't care what they look like, I am a big fan, have them on my Les Paul and 5120.

I used to hate the look of dog-ear P90s but I grew out of that.

They may look ugly but they sound so nice. Sweet as you girlfriend when you pull in front of a jewelry store or cranky and nasty as your wife when you buy her a vacuum for your anniversary. :D

    Most versatile pickup made IMHO.

Soap bars have that peculiar charm of those extra screws, which make them look like somebody made a mistake in the design or installation. I'm sure others can find that ugly.

A single dog ear (as long as it's black lol) and a wrap tail says "I'm about to make some noise and you'd better hide the women and children".

I guess you can tell I like Juniors and Specials:cool:

I had a 57 LP Special like the one Sreamin Eagle posted - the double-cut on the right.
    upload_2017-4-28_17-2-45.jpeg

Out of all the guitars I've had since the 60's I remember that one as having the most satisfying tone of any guitar. Unfortunately, it would not stay in tune, the neck was just too wiggly. So I eventually sold it. It was a heartbreaker. Wish I could score a single cut like the one on the left without breaking the bank. I know all this is subjective, but I think they both look really great too!

My attitude is who cares what they look like. I'll glue a tuna fish sandwich to my guitar if it has great tone.

You are. But it will pass.

I had one on an Aerodyne and really miss it.

What's not to love? Humbuckers look... I don't know.... vanilla? It's all about the right parts for the right guitar. I agree, P90s aren't my top choice for a Tele (aesthetically speaking), and humbuckers are very plain-looking to me. But put 3 humbuckers (double cream) in a cherryburst Les Paul (a la Ace Frehley) & voila! Perfection!

But in most (non-Fender) guitars I prefer P90s. In looks, and *definitely* in sonics!
