Drive your car at 10mph it is practically a crawl $163.00 for that extra 10 mph is harsh but there you go they have to uphold the law and no doubt they break it every time they drive home after every shift

Might as well just have gone for the ton, more cost effective.:p

I hate to think what it costs here now, motorists are soft targets.

wow!! In Connecticut you aren’t speeding until you are going 25 mph above the posted speed limit.

Fees are just another form of taxation brought to you by local government officials who would be voted out if they raised taxes. Where I live, red light cameras are the new form of taxation. Speeding is kind of funny. The speed limit is 55 and the enforcement point is 70 unless traffic is moving faster or the town ran out of money.

the speeding fines are a bit steeper downunder... 20 bucks is chump change, not much of a deterrent to stop speeding is it?........

and demerit points accumulate for violations which can cancel your license too...

    https://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/Safety/Driver-guide/Speeding/Speeding-fines-and-demerit-points.aspx

Less than 13km/h over the speed limit
    $177 1 point

At least 13km/h but not more than 20km/h over the speed limit
    $266 3points

More than 20km/h but not more than 30km/h over the speed limit
    $444 4 points

More than 30km/h but not more than 40km/h over the speed limit
    $622 6points

More than 40km/h over the speed limit $1,245 8 points and 6 month suspension

I don't speed for any reason anymore.... too expensive...;)

Here most cities give you an Impeding Traffic ticket because they know:

1.) It doesn’t report to the state, so it doesn’t report to your insurance company.

2.) It’s $150 per ticket, all to the city.

3.) The majority of people they give it to a white collar workers just passing through on their way to or from work who will just pay it because of reasons #1, #2, along with the lack of insurance premium increases isn’t worth fighting it.

What grinds my gears is it’s just a money grab and what they pulled you over for couldn’t be more opposite of “Impeding Traffic”.

I - and this is just me - would send the clerk a Public Records Act request asking for documentation to substantiate how they came up with that cost figure, which seems woefully disproportionate relative to the actual fine.

Again, that's just me...a guy who believes government should be held accountable to the same degree to which it seeks to impose accountability on the citizenry.

My last speeding fine was over $400 bucks. The limit went from 110kms to 60kmh on a steep downhill road. The camera was positioned at just the right place to catch you if you didn't want to jam your brakes on full and have a load in the back be disturbed.

Imo it was basically forcing you to drive less safely or be penalised for it.

Here in NC, 9mph over the limit is a ticket/fine but no insurance points. 10 or more over and it's fine + points + insurance increase. There's a cottage industry in attorneys who mail you their brochures within 24 hrs and all but promise to get you dropped down to "equipment violation" which doesn't report to insurance - assuming your record is otherwise clean. That'll cost about $350 all in, including fees, fines, court costs, etc.

A semi- local Deputy Sheriff (Caledonia County, Vermont) was recently popped driving his personal car on I-91 at around 100mph.

It used to be that sort of thing got the L.E. Fraternal Free Pass. No more I guess.

-I've- gotten away with that sort of thing because I was wearing a British S.A.S. sweater and sporting a "cop" haircut. The officer invited me to come sit in the cruiser, a first for me at the time. I figured I was screwed and wondered what I did. Cop asked me,

"Which branch of law enforcement do you represent?"

and let me go with a warning when I explained I just look like a duck.

I might add I was driving a Crown Vic packed full of Russians at the time.

    Knock wood.

    It’s heen awhile for me.
Two Bambi collisions and a bad drunk driver (not me) incident made me ultra cautious.
    It’s only money, TGT.
Your massive Moderator salary should cover it.
