I haven't mentioned this but severe health problems have hit me and I have a LOT of guitars to move soon.

I haven't worked the last couple of months. I just don't have the energy to do much. Anyway.
The man I sub all my work through hired a young man about a year ago and I could tell he is not
the average joe. Nice looking, clean and smart as a whip. He is a hard worker and although we didn't
see each other often on jobs we would all meet in the mornings to discuss the jobs for the day and
chat it up. Joke around, you guys know the game.

I learned from talking with him he played guitar and at one time gave lessions so I figured he must
be at least a passable player. He said had some junk guitar and for the last year I've tried to get him
out to the house but it just never panned out.

He finally made out today and we had a time. He is a good player. Newer stuff but good.
I showed him some blues stuff and he was blown away. Pick right up on some basic chords
and we had a blast for a couple of hours. Of course I had to drag out some of the good stuff.
Hamer Korina.Explorer, 76 Byrdland, SG Special several others. Amps out wazoo...70's Marshall 1/2
stack, Silverface Deluxe Reverb, Princeton, Vox AC 15 ....several others...

Anyway, the last few years I 've bought several lower end guitars to play with and give away.
I bought a Squire Strat a few years ago and was quite surprised at what a good guitar it is.
Orange with a beautiful, dark rosewood board. The pickups are a little weak but a great guitar for
what it is. I put it in a nice tweed case.
I bought a Peavey Bandit a few years ago just to check it out after all the reading I here about them.
It is the blue stripe with the Scorpion speaker. It is a really good amp for what it is
So.....He went home today with the guitar, case and amp.
He was almost in tears. Me too. Good kid. I think told me he is 25. I couldn't be more happy.
He wants to come back weekend to jam some more. Looking forward to it.
You are living a good life. Best to you

Really sorry to hear about the health issues. I wish you well, brother.

It's great what you did. It's inspirational and I'll remember it. When I was a kid I wanted to play piano but we couldn't afford lessons or a piano. My school didn't offer them and I eventually bought a decrepit monophonic synthesizer from some guy who probably stole it (I don't say that with pride, it's terrible but probably true given the price and who I got it from). Anyhow, I fixed it up and learned how to get a lot of great sounds from it, which was not easy. But it was monophonic and I couldn't learn how to play piano on it. I remember thinking at the time - maybe I was 12 or so - that one of these wealthy people in town could do a lot of good by donating money or instruments to people who passionately wanted to play but couldn't afford it.

Long story short, my best friend died tragically two years ago. I'm still reeling from it. He was the best guitar player I personally knew and his parents are financially secure. His father flew in and he and I took care of the estate, which includes a little bit of money and maybe 10 guitars. We talked about it and decided to donate all of them to a local music school that is donation only. Again, I hope that's doesn't sound like I'm virtue signaling, it just seemed like a decent thing to do. When I read your post and thought about my experience it really clicked for me that it's may have been a really good thing we did and I will remember that and make it a point to try and do this kind of thing whenever I have the chance.

I wish you well!

I love giving stuff away. I'm that guy that gets all the great deals so I like to give stuff away from time to time to even out the good karma. I had an amp for sale a few days ago and when the guy came to pick it up I on the spot decided to give it to him. He almost fell off my porch lol. Feels good.

All good tales of acts of good will.
In the late 1980's and early 1990's I worked at two back to back aerospace jobs that for the most part each required 84 hour work weeks. The gravy train ran for just over 3 years. Not much time to play or practice, so my '65 Jazzmaster did too much shelf time. But toward the end of the second job I met one of the engineers from Denver temporarily assigned to our field locatiion at an Air Force base. He played guitar but didn't bring one with him. We got together and had some fun times. I loaned him the Fender, which I wound giving it to him as I was developing a severe case of GAS and could afford to treat it. He was stunned but I convinced him it was a good thing all around. That '65 needed to be played not stuck languishing in a closet. I hope they are both OK, it's been many years since that time.
