Well, today I did. I was walking down a gravel road to a customer's property. The road is about two miles long and this customer is at the end. The next customer is a half mile up from them. The road is very narrow in some places so I parked my truck and walked just a bit less than the half mile to their property to inspect an electric utility pole.

When I was walking back, I saw a stone that was out of place. It was white and evenly shaped. There are other white stones in the gravel but this one caught my eye so I stopped and picked it up. Then I looked closer and saw the rune symbol on it.

The symbol is Mannaz which is the symbol for man or human. It was no where near the house and it puzzles my why it was there. I mean, obviously someone dropped it but I thought it was kind of an odd thing to find amongst all the stones.

    This is the rune:

    9D9BFE42-110C-472D-9F10-88F0833C1D51_1_105_c.jpeg

    And this is the road:

That is neat. If I found it, though, it would give me the creeps and I would chuck it.

In my neck of the woods, kids paint rocks and leave them all over. I call it “rock littering.” Weirds me out.

No one is allowed to fondle, modify, or admire, rocks in my world.

Of course, this causes all manner of difficulty, as I must crawl on all fours across the cobblestone dawn of yesterday.

That's a rockin' find. You might consider contacting the local historical society, on the off chance that it might be a legitimately important find.

“Alright, crew, we’re good to go? Haven’t left any runestones laying around to show we were here? Bjorn the Careless, you all good?”

Am I crazy, or wasn’t there some kind of an old carving in the rock where you had the dimes in the I find dimes post? What gives?

I think it's contemporary and not old. I think it's got to be part of a set. Still odd, though.

I don’t remember being in Humboldt, but it’s possible. I leave everything behind me in runes.

I wonder if you disturbed someone's "I was here".

Makes me wonder how it got there and a thousand other things.

I'll never know. Now I can get some sleep.

Great, now you're going to either be cursed or haunted.

No worries, though. I'm sure you'll be just fine.

    Hi.

I don't really know anything much about these things, but I do know that is either elder Futhark (the older Germanic rune system, and predates the 'viking' age) or Anglo-Saxon Futhork (I think roughly contemporary with the end of the elder futhark period). Like the name 'alphabet' comes from the first two Greek letters, so do these names come from the first six letters involved. And there ends my knowledge. But, it's safe to say, 'not viking.'

At first I thought you found something of Native American origin, but after I looked it up, I saw that it's European. I think some neopagans planted it there and were hiding in the bushes laughing!
