I felt a disturbance in the force today, not a smidgeon of the series Law and Order was on.

I've been watching Football today, but thought I'd get just a little dose of Law and Order to kind of smooth me over before I head out to our folks place. Unbelievably there was not an episode to be found. This is not a disturbance, this is a rent in the force.

I don't have netflix, I have hundreds of streaming channels, but I didn't find any Law and Order on Youtube tv, and it's ALWAYS on! Something is afoul here!

Well then let’s make up our own episode. First we have to determine if it’s regular or Special Victims Unit.

There are some seasons of L&O: SUV, err, SVU that are free with an Amazon Prime membership.

a camera slowly pans down a deserted intercity alley at night...past the neon bar sign and the broken street light until it finally rests upon a lifeless young body. Police sirens wail in the distance as a worried bystander gently turns the inert form over to reveal...

Amazon Prime is restricted with Season 8-9-1 here.

But since it's marishka's prime and there's Christopher meloni i'll take it.

Cold Case File - As a kid I bought the Revell Sopwith Camel airplane model. I came home as placed it on my dresser and went outside to play. It was missing when I came home. I never got to build that model. I need the case to be opened and the theft of my property solved. It scarred me for life. That is the show that should have been on today.

I enjoyed the first four of five seasons of the original L&O, particularly the classic line up of Chris Noth, Jerry Orbach, Michael Moriarty and Steven Hill, the latter of whom had come quite a long way from his Mission: Impossible days. Being a relatively frequent "bridge and tunnel" visitor to NYC from NJ at the time, it was fun to see the city onscreen in the early 1990s. Eventually though, the show seemed to mutate from an updated police procedural to more of a soap opera, and when Orbach died, I slowly bailed on the show. I can't say any of the spin-offs grabbed me, although it was fun to do impersonations of Vincent D'Onofrio's ticks and weird gestures on his L&O spinoff.

I think when it first started showing, (like what?.....the mid-sixties? :) ) I tried to get into Law and Order. Pre-cable and all, so it's not like I had a lot of other choices.....but it just never worked for me. It followed TOO much of a formula and lacked originality, like a Scooby Doo, Where Are You? for grownups. I haven't paid much attention lately, but I thought it was on 24/7 somewhere.
But, like bgmacaw mentioned, check out ID channel or HLN.....Forensic Files is a marathon today on HLN.

By the way what I Guess is a Rhodes on Living for the City from Stevie Wonder has a strong taste of Law and Order theme no ?

What I really liked about the early episodes of L&O was that it was the first American TV show in a very long time that experimented with the structure of an hour-long show, with the first half focusing on the cops, and the second on the D.A.'s office. As someone who spent the '80s obsessing over Stanley Kubrick's experiments with cinematic structure, I found this to be really intriguing, in addition to the cast and the "ripped from the headlines" plots. Also, the show's first cinematographer was Earnest Dickerson, who I liked from Spike Lee's first movies. It was all somewhat novel stuff, before the show settled into its formula.
