So this is our May 24 long weekend here in Canada...I have been out enjoying some fun and laughter and a few beverages with family and friends. Lately my music tastes have been towards the Alt. Country or Blues genre so the first recommendation I get...that the title hits me just right, I am ready to spend .99 cents towards a new itune-without first hearing the song....watcha got?

PS. Iam coming Stateside (USA) for your Long weekend next week...see you folks then.
    Cheers

Purchase "Cold Roses" by Ryan Adams and the Cardinals. Double-album of great alt-country songs.

Cold Roses is fantastic. I personally like Jacksonville City nights slightly better, but both are incredible. If you don't have either of them, forget the 99 cents and just cough up for both entire albums. Your ears will not regret it.

Try "Pictures From Life's Other Side" by Johnny Dowd, if you don't already know it. It's an oldie but still good.

I just stumbled upon the band Eastbound Jesus. They just released an album called "Northern Rock". Its been on repeat in my car stereo for the past week. Best song on it: North Country Girl.

    Two of my faves lately:

Andrew Delaney & The Horse You Rode In On- "Wine and Roses"

The Gourds- "Blood of the Ram"

And as the others said, "Cold Roses" and "Jacksonville City Nights" are must-haves.

    Buddy Guy - Stone Crazy

The song. There's a Buddy Guy album with that name, but the song isn't on that. It is a great album though. It is on The Very Best Of Buddy Guy.

Depending on where you are on the Alt-----Country continuum, there are a few cuts here you might like.

Wreck is country before Garth. Bluebirds is actually R&B but the pedal steel is old school country. Little Blue House was written with George Jones in mind. Look For Me is a traditional sounding drinking song.

I've been revisiting some old blues lately. I discovered Amazon has a lot of great blues CDs for under $6, things which I had on LP and haven't heard in a while: Muddy Waters' At Newport 1960 and Folk Singer, Son House's Original Delta Blues and BB King's Live at the Regal.

As for something more recent, have you heard Jim Campilongo's Orange?
