Seems like some of you guys shouldn't have more than one kid as one will get all the love and the others will be considered "ugly" :)

There is plenty of room in my heart for both the Tele and the Strat!!!

I think Strats look beautiful and Teles look clunky, even though I like Teles and am not keen on Strats. So there. :)

I don't see uglyness. I see grace and beauty, combined with panache.

I think the amount of pickguard on a strat kind of ruins things for me...probably 50% of the top is covered by the plastic pickguard! I'm building a '56-'63 duo sonic right now. I love how they look--about 30% of the top is pickguard. It will look like this:

Except mine will have one more pickup and a 24" scale length (this one's only 22.5"). I'd pick a duo sonic over a strat any day...

I feel rather indifferent toward the Strat.
I thought I wanted one once, bought a nice American something or other, it was the 1989 equivalent to the later American Deluxe, in a faded blue burst color. Very nice guitar, very high quality, played nice, but I couldn't get along with it. Didn't feel or sound right, never fell in love with it and sold it. I satisfied my curiosity, now I'm done with them.
While I find the Telecaster to be the perfect solid body, beautiful in form and function.

I have always thought strats were nice looking, albeit plain with their unexciting solid colors. I always thought Teles were the ugliest guitars ever. Then I played a Tele and loved it so much I changed my mind about it being ugly. I prefer the Tele over the strat, but I don't think the strat is ugly.

    My Firebird is bloody beautiful.....

With regards to Strats....I never liked them until recently and I have fancied a Siena Sunburst one!

I like my strat just fine. It sounds great, and it does strat stuff. :) It serves it's purpose. It's not as pretty as say a BSB tele, although its a nice cherry sunburst on ash with a white pickguard and a rosewood fretboard. But either way, I think many strats are boring, but not ugly. It's true strats are much more like a woman than a tele. Strats have contours, Real teles don't... :) Tele's are more powerful... Less "maintenance" on a tele, (tuning that is...) Although I personally think that Floyd trems are some of the most ugly things that there could be aside from the metal and shredder weird guitars, although I do like a vintage styled Flying V, those are pretty cool. :)

Still my tele is my favorite. :) It's the most versatile and is just great, solid, and invincible. :)

Strats look ok. Some of them look really nice.

Telecasters are beautiful. The shape of a Tele is perhaps the most aesthetically pleasing of all electric guitars. There is no other guitar shape that is as beautiful as a Tele.

If you don't agree, well, you're entitled to your opinion . . . (however wrong it may be).

I was going to comment and then I noticed that I did comment 3-1/2 years ago. Strats & chicks are hot.

^^^ LOL I read someone say that the tele is like a guy and the strat is his younger hot sister a couple pages back... kinda makes sense. :) Although I'd say the esquire is not like a crack whore or anything, I'd say it's like the younger brother to the tele (ironic as it's the older design) Or possibly the tele is a big diesel mud truck, and the esquire is like a monster truck, whereas the strat would be the common F150 gas engine truck. Not lifted, no big mud tires. *laughs*

Admittedly I'm a Strat guy first and foremost and have been for close to 30 years. But to me, the Strat is better looking, and just feels so PERFECT when you hold it. It conforms to you when you play, feels light and right, and sounds great. The Tele - my second favorite guitar - doesn't fit as well, feels clunky, is more work for me to get sweet tones, and yet... I just love it. Can't explain it, it just is.

When I'm feelin' my Tele, I play my Tele.

When I'm feelin' my Strat, I play my Strat.

For that matter, when I'm feelin' my Gretsch, I play my Gretsch.

All of them gorgeous in their own way. Why are we arguing about this?
