It's not violence, it's comedy. My kid understood that when we watched Django Unchained when he was 7.

I don't mind some of his films, but I admit I'm not a massive fan. He is no Sergio Leone.

I DID kind of hate Death Proof and I thought The Hateful Eight was meh, but I thought Kurt Russell, Walton Goggins, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Demian Bichir were good in it.

The Hollywood movie industry is a business ... They make movies to sell tickets, not to make "good movies" ...
Occasionally, they make a good one by accident ... Every 20 or 30 years if we're lucky ...

    Coen.

I like a greater percentage of their movies than his but not all of their movies.

By the time I saw Big Lebowski , the Dude persona and the hype was sooo huge that it ruined it for me.

Hell, I much preferred A Serious Man and Buster Scruggs to BL.

Tarantino ? Violence doesn’t bother me one bit. It’s a movie. Of the handful of his I like, I’d mention Inglorious Basterds as well. Suspenseful , funny, and a popcorn movie that played all over the country at special showings in synagogues to rapturous reception . I think that’s fantastic.

That you call them movies pretty much says it all. I view his work as cinema in the same way that Kubrick didn't make movies, he made cinema.

Pulp Fiction is one of my favourite movies and I can recite most of the script from memory. I think Jackie Brown is a good solid film, but for me, the rest of his output is the overblown, flabby wanking of a spoiled boy. YMMV

    LOVE Tarantino!

Most of his films have at least one objectionable scene but he brings out the best from the actors.

Can't wait for "Once Upon A Time In Hollywood" to come to town!

Notice how I didn't go into the "Once Upon A Time In Hollywood" thread to crap in it. (NOT saying you're crapping in my thread, lol)

stuff I don't like, after I recognize that, I just move on. Lots of great stuff in the world. for me, QT is sometimes a genius and sometimes he misses... the great ones do that. But, hey, artists like QT challenge us and do things we'll hate, which would make him laugh.

I LOVE the story ( narrative/dialogue, actors...), scenery, the ' over the top cartoony' violence, and amazing music of the Kill Bill Movies

I guess like Pulp Fiction too, you just dont know what the hell ( at first) is happening, is gonna happen- you just go for a wild ride and enjoy.

Pulp Fiction was great. I think society grades his stuff on a curve because of how great that movie is.

Hes had ok stuff and trash. Planet Terror was funny in parts, the "missing reel" part making the cliche "deus ex machina " tropes forever become giggling fits for me. Death proof was boring.

I will say that he seems to literally have a checklist of things to include in every movie:
Violent tropes 1-679, racial slur 1to7, pop culture references 1-5, potentially funny catchphrase depending on context when repeated #1-3...
Ok, got those written, let's cast 12 people and throw a script together.....

    But yea, love Pulp Fiction...

I'm a fan. Remember going to the theater to see Pulp Fiction. I thought it was a breath of fresh air from all the " serious " cinema & the PC gobbledygook language that has permeated all aspects of our culture.

That being said, still not the biggest fan of Reservoir Dogs...

...love Jackie Brown. Robert Forester was fantastic in that flick.

When violence becomes comedy, we are doomed to wallow in it... I get dark comedy. QT’s hyper kitschy brand of it just comes off as SO unbearably forced. Its just not done well. A Clockwork Orange would be an example it being done well, and even then, its still violence sold as entertainment. What entertains us will only bore our children and grand children. Where do I want my grand kids to be inspired? Music, music is a place. But if they do decide to watch something, I they can do much much better than QT.

Quentin Tarantino today called his people in to ask them if there was some way they could invent a new vulgar language that could somehow be more disgusting than the one he's been working with in his movies. They told him that no, there was no way they could get any filthier, and a new language would actually move away from his intended goal. He said don't start with me, get Di Niro in here right away, he'll know what to do.
