When I lived in the city right on the corner of the Main Street there was plenty of noise pollution. I got used to it but at times I did grind my teeth. Even more irritable were sirens! As for the hummer, I need towing power and distance. Unfortunately we are still at the forefront of this technology. I have a battery power lawn mower. Why? Because I was sick of dealing with pulling the darn starter, dealing with gas and the noise. But, sometimes I want to mow my lawn and beat the weather. And wouldn't you know it the battery is dead!

I don't know what (1) and (2) have to do with one another, but I'm sorry to hear that.

And I have never had a Harley beep at me with a horn that is 100x more effective than constant rumble.

while i do not wish to ruin your thread with mere pedantry, for the want of a comma your thread title insinuates that you do not like your wife.

The problem with that bumper sticker is that we have an epidemic of gripe seekers who live to piss people off.

Cranky aimless folks who feel unnoticed but can't think of any useful or virtuous meany of getting attention.

Loud Pipes Save Lives is about as dumb as Start Seeing Motorcycles.

I remember thinking that just a few days ago. I was in the fast lane at typical clip (75-80mph). What seemed truly out of nowhere was suddenly a motorcyclist near my butt doing well over 100mph. The sudden blip of him in my mirror and his exhaust blast startled me, and I quickly put my blinker on to move and let him go by. Sure enough, moron quickly moved to go around. No signal. No warning. Heaven forbid slow down, amirite?

    He barely missed me.

That's how people die on motorcycles.

I consider myself above average for driving vigilance and defensiveness (the safe meaning). I didn't see or hear that motorcycle coming for anything. I don't even drive with the radio on. If you're gonna go faster than every one else just because you can, with the added belief that since you are a smaller target you can squeeze by quicker, onus is on you for your safety, bud.

In general I don't like being an unwitting participant in other people's lifestyle choices. Music I didn't ask for is one at the top of the list. The one that seems to be an almost daily occurrence is getting to smell weed everywhere I go. It especially annoys me when I'm at home in my yard or in my shop. I have two neighbours who seem to be chronic. I hate the smell. I don't care if it's your 'medicine'...I don't want to smell your medicine. When I have a beer at my house the surrounding houses don't get unwillingly volunteered to participate with me in taking my medicine.

Get off my lawn....in fact get off my planet!!! :)

And as per the OP, I've become very sensitive to noise as I've aged. Traffic noise in town can be just overwhelming to me at times.

Not to be too self-indulgent (born the same year), but I just got yet another goofy tattoo ... my apologies ...

Have you tried slipping an anonymous note into your neighbour's mailbox about the smell?
    They probably don't know.
I like to play my acoustic in the yard sometimes. I'd hate to think that I was bothering someone else. I'd rather they tell me atonal free-form jazz-metal isn't their thing and could I take it inside please the children are frightened.

As I get older, I detest any kind of loud noises because of a significant case of tinnitus. Sudden, loud noises seem to exacerbate the ringing and can even be painful.

From March until June, there was hardly any traffic on the roads. We could breathe and hear birds singing. Then the lockdown ended.
