I have not been on TDPRI for quite a while now. I sold my '52 reissue tele 10 years and have been playing a strat. I recently became a country music convert and have been itching for a telecaster. Well, today I did something crazy. I have never held a Fender custom shop guitar in my hand let alone play one. Today I saw a Telecaster on Reverb that once I saw it I had to it. I've wanted a Telecaster with full sized humbucker neck pickup. I pulled the trigger and bought a CS '51 Telecaster HS relic.

Now I own custom shop guitar but still have never played one. I hope it is delivered soon.

    I did something crazy

Yeah, me too. But it was a long time ago, I was drunk, all the urinals were occupied, and there was nobody at the sink. In full view of everyone, and our bass player freaked out and ran out of the men's room yelling, "[vocalist's name], [my name] just p***ed in the sink!" Then we went back onstage and played the next set without incident. Looking back, it's pretty absurd that we were hired to entertain the bar's clientele, and.... wait a minute, perhaps that counts as "entertainment".

In the off-chance anyone thinks I am making this up, I can 100% assure you this actually happened. Colorado Springs, early 1990's.

That black guard looks great against that burst - and I don't like bursts.

V neck, yes please. Only thing I wouldn't like is the neck radius.

    But it's a real looker.

It's only crazy if you start buying guitars like that once a week, without stopping.

Or busting a loaf in front of your grandkids; that might get you some hard time.

Congrats on your new guitar! I will be curious to find out just exactly what this means, and I quote from the listing:

    • Handwound Crushed Blackguard Tele Bridge Pickup
I try to learn what I can and this is the first time I have encountered the term "crushed" pickup.

...oops, the update, I see it doesn't matter. just my 2 cents, I kind of like the copper even more...Congrats again.

now, if you keep cycling through different orders, maybe that's a little cray cray, but then someone might tell you about my song called "Tapeworm Jesus" and WTFf?.....

I do like the aged copper better, but even more reason was going from a 7.25 radius neck to 9.50 at neck. "Crushed blackguard" is a new term for me too.:)

IMO, Custom Shop guitars, bought used, are one of the really great ways to go. They're overpriced, new, but that rubs off on the used market. I think it's criminal that Fender won't build its regular guitars to the same spec, but they don't, and so used CS is the way to get a great Fender for a reasonable price. If you want a truly good Tele, I'll bet you nailed it with this purchase.

Now you are borderline; I have never done anything as weird as that....nope, never, nada.....

FWIW, I like the copper one better...:D
Oh, and you're right, at that price, another $200 makes no difference, especially if you got one with the specs you really wanted. No sense "settling" on something you'll always question.
