First of all…I am admittedly a gear snob….I worked in music retail for 46 years and I’ve always felt like I knew things better than a lot of the customers I helped…well..because I’d seen so much crap come down the pike in all of my years in the business.

I was having a cable problem at my church gig…my cable to my amp was constantly getting tangled up around me feet because of the rather tight space I was in…it was not only inconvenient it was also potentially dangerous since where I stand is right next to a step or two on the sanctuary ”stage”.

So I decided, with much dread, to shop for a wireless system to eliminate the cable/tangling problem. I say “with much dread” because, in my past experience a “good” wireless would cost me in the area of $350.00….this for a church gig where I would only need said device for 2-3 hours per week.

I saw a post here on TDPRI about a guy who purchased a super budget wireless from Amazon…I snickered to myself about his naivete’……then I read a ton of the reviews on this product and thought “Are all of these people being paid for their reviews? Or are they all just liars?”

Long story short…I ordered this:

Amazon product ASIN B08R8FSFRB

It arrived on Saturday and I charged up the transmitter and receiver and I hooked up my guitar and amp using them in my office…it worked just fine…no hashy background noise…no drop outs…it just worked great.

OK….come Sunday morning I get to church a little early to hook up this sub-$40.00 monstrosity….it worked just fine….I walked about 50 ft. out…and it worked just fine…I walked about 75 ft. out…and it worked just fine….the whole distance experiment was actually ludicrous since all I needed distance-wise was 6-10 feet.

I did the four tunes during the service…and it worked just fine.

I am flabbergasted….I just found a $39.99 wireless…the type of thing I used to scoff at…that works perfectly and does exactly what I need it to do at a fraction of what I expected to spend.

But what about longevity? At $39.99 I can afford to buy one per year if I need to…that would only be $3.33 per month to be cable-free.

Thanks for the link and the nudge. I’ve been planning to get an inexpensive wireless system for a while now, but never got around to pulling the trigger.

I was jamming with my cousin yesterday, and my cord was acting up. Cords are constantly acting up for me.

Electronics really are incredible when you can manufacture them at large scales- I've worked in electronics for most of my professional life manufacturing specific, small order, niche equipment, but stuff like wireless technology is so prevalent now you can crank it out for pennies.

There are single chips on some of the boards I've assembled that cost more than every part of an iPhone combined simply because every part of iPhone is manufactured at scale, and the chips we use are not.

That's a great way to think about things like that; I wish more people did that. A recent large purchase will cost $21 per month if I keep it for five years. Some spend more than that on coffee in a week.
Maybe I should have said $.77 per week….that sounds even better. 😀

I bought the same wireless setup and was very impressed with it. Granted, I got the cheapest I could find because I only got it to use for sound check to hear the mix out front—I personally would not rely on a (cheap) wireless setup for a performance—but I have never had an issue with it, the range is excellent, and the charge lasts for a long time. Joyo makes some great, cheap electronics in my experience.

I understand about doing a “show”, etc.

I’m basically standing still and occasionally looking over at a chart on an iPad….so no jumping about or any other gymnastics. ;)

And what did we spend $1260.00 on recently?

Tell me more!

I wanted to do wireless thingy because I wanted to check my tones coming out of the PA (I'm doing church gigs as well), but I'm chained to my board with my cable!

however, on the same boat as you, I thought of buying custom molded IEM's that costs north 1000USD, but decided not to and just look through good reviews on cheaper IEMS.. I've been using this the past year and it's amazing.. (its cheaper if you buy from Aliexpress).. I've been buying these IEM's every chance I get.. I have like 3-4 backups given that I thought it wouldnt last a year, but here we are.. I'm still on the same ones I bought last year and going strong.

Does it come with the adapters for charging it?

Can you post the exact name and model of what you bought, because I can't see any amazon link either.

edit: I just deactivated the inbuilt browser tracking blocker. now I could see the

JOYO 2,4 GHz JW-03

wireless transmitter/receiver on Amazon

My experience with the inexpensive wireless systems is that they work well in a “clean” environment. I’ve had two different ones, and if there’s lots of wireless routers in the area, I would get very brief drops in the signal, or latency that I noticed, but probably not enough that anyone listening would notice.
We played one particular club that was very near a hospital and several medical offices. My phone detected at least 15 wireless networks in the area. My cheap wireless just couldn’t deal with the congestion. I got a Line 6 G10II and at the same club, no dropouts, no latency, no problems.

Another sure-fire way to avoid trouble is to buy another one and keep in in your case as a back-up. I find when I have an "extra" of anything and I am prepared for a failure, nothing EVER breaks!!😁

A member here turned me on to the Lekato wireless set, also at Amazon, under $60 US. They're great. After a year or so, I bought another set so I can charge one pair while using the other. One of the best bits of gear I've ever bought. Love "cutting the cord."
