    So far-

Couple nice walks in the sunshine. Got several miles in.

Made popcorn and watched the new Tom and Jerry movie with LB. The youngest daughter. We laughed until we almost peed. We also discovered the new Disney + series “Secret Of Sulphur Springs” and are now totally invested. We have to find out what happened to Savannah!!

Couple hour car ride with middle child. We go on rides, take turns picking songs, and she DJ’s.

Homemade Chinese food last night, homemade burgers and Cajun fries today.

    Chocolate cake.

Broke out the acoustic and played and sang for the dog. It chilled him out so much he started snoring next to me.

Learned a Taylor Swift song and had a sing-along with middle child. Promised her it would go in my solo show set list. That’ll be crazy! She has also asked for a Taylor Swift songbook and to borrow a guitar to take upstairs and learn with. I’m gonna get her set up.

    It’s not even Sunday yet!

She loves a lot of really great music that her mother and I love. She’s a huge Petty fan, and a Deadhead. Amongst a lot of other stuff. She really loves all the 80’s alternative rock and pop that I grew up on, and a lot of the 60’s and 70’s stuff my dad got me hooked on growing up. But she’s also 16 years old. Taylor speaks her language, and I’ve got to say, is also really turning into quite the songwriter. I don’t like everything I hear from her, I’m about 50/50 split on her stuff. But I’d be lying if I said there’s nothing there to like.

She’s 16. So modern stuff like Driver Era and Harry Styles, the kiddie pop she loved when she was younger and hangs onto for sentimental reasons, like Hanna Montana and other Disney popsters. Taylor, of course! She’s also into Petty, the Dead, a lot of underground and poppy indie label and DIY punk stuff (her brother had started taking her to some all ages shows pre-covid and she got hooked), as well as the Social D and Ramones and other old guy stuff she pulled from me. She also LOVES 80’s and 90’s alternative rock and pop, and we both share a massive fixation with the Indigo Girls whole catalogue. She’s heard that stuff since before she was born. Like me, she doesn’t like much instrumental stuff or what I call “nonsense” writing. Even the pop stuff has to at least be well put together lyrically. Lyrics are number one.

My son is 21, he’ll be 22 in October. He doesn’t live with us anymore.

The girls are 16 and 10. They’ll be 17 and 11 this summer. Both August birthdays.
