to play some Christmas music.

My wife, being Japanese, is lukewarm at best regarding Christmas, and my kids are in their teens now, and since we live an ocean away from the rest of my family, it’s basically “just us” in a country where Christmas is 1)not even a holiday, and 2)most closely associated with KFC and love hotels (not that that’s a bad thing!).

I had some dark Christmases in my late twenties, when I was single and depressed, and I once spent way more than I could afford on a splendid tree that just made me feel sadder because I was the only one looking at it.

I know there are guys here who have a strong aversion to the holiday, and I understand how that can be, but even in my deep skepticism about the commercialism and smarm that surrounds the holiday, I still gotta say that it holds a sentimental place in my heart, both for the memories of my own childhood and the ones of when my kids were little, and for the promise and optimism in the symbolism of the season.

That said, my middle kid started playing Christmas music in her room the other day, and I told her “too soon!” 😅

She reckons any time after Halloween is fair game, but my rule is any time before Thanksgiving (US) is premature.

Posting this because it’s Sunday afternoon here and I’m debating putting on some Johnny Mathis 😆 🎄

This is literally a desert island disc for me BTW.

Sorry to be a bummer.

I say good rule you've got there- stick til after T-giving
Nah man I get it, and I can even imagine feeling that way when my kids are all out of the house. For various reasons it seems possible (or even likely) that none of my kids will have kids in my lifetime so most of the joy of the day is actually nostalgic now.

My daughters and grandkids live in Chicago now. My wife will be going to see them for Christmas. Because of my health issues, I can't travel there. It's going to be just me and the dogs this year for Christmas. It's going to be weird. At least they are coming here for Thanksgiving. So I want to enjoy Thanksgiving before I even think about Christmas this year.

This will be my own little tree this year.

Christmas music sucks, that’s why so many people turn mean during December. It’s just raw hatred coming through your speaker. No, some of it is NOT good so don’t even try, you know who you are.
As a parent you’re doing the right thing by limiting the time that audio horror show can fill your home that you pay for.

Also make it about family. Gift giving is fun but don’t make it a source of stress.

She's playing bass now and asked if old uncle trev could make her a bass...

I have this spare 3/4 bass here I used for my school kids rock band... which I'll be happy to give her...

there is hope ... a young musician in the family... sweet...:)

Sirius Radio has started Christmas Music. I’m not listenin. I am not against it but I think Christmas is overdone. Don’t know if I will decorate this year. Y’all hang in until after Thanksgiving.

I put a number of albums on my wife’s iPhone to play thru a BT speaker: Johnny Mathis, Perry Como, Nat King Cole, Andy Williams and so on, even Burl Ives. I can be as curmudgeonly as the best but come the Christmas week I enjoy it all, especially the younger kids.

Jupiter, I wish ya the best Christmas possible.
