I actually feel outrage over a tv show!

so your team's up by 3, 5 seconds left, and your opponent's inbounding the ball at half court after using its last timeout. You going to foul to prevent the three-point opportunity? What do your kids think?

Sadly I can't get a hold of them to make the inquiry. I could venture a good guess though: Nathaniel would foul the guy, Sarah, Matthew, and Alex just plain old don't care and they wouldn't play along.

I think fouling is the way to go but I don't think that's poor sportsmanship because each side has the same opportunity to foul. It's not one sided like The Price Is Right where each contestant is in it for themselves.

I just think that bidding a single dollar over another contestant's bid is in poor taste.

I have never watched an episode of the Alone series, but, in reading about the Alone producer's role in the production, they make "suggestions" as to what the contestants should and shouldn't say and/or do to make the show more interesting.
Once they do that it's no longer reality... in my book, anyway.
I have no expectations for 'reality' in reality shows. I totally get that they are just stories that we watch that may have 'real' people, but I am 100% on board with it being a show. If you watch Jonas' youtube channel he is pretty open about what is real and what is part of the entertainment thing.

Hey, I used to like Swamp Loggers, but I knew the weekly 'disaster' was BS. I just liked the people in the cast and I enjoyed watching them do stuff I've never done (logging in a swamp.) Sumetrio was a great character, and, I suspect, he is probably a nice guy too.

I have relatives that get all bummed out from 'spoilers' and stuff like that. None of that bothers me a bit. Plots are kind of finite if a guy is a student of narratives.

This show was particularly egregious because the people were inhumane and chose evil and the producers went with it. I was proud of the man from Florida who said, 'hey, I stand for something, this is terrible, I'm out.'

If, when watching a documentary, I determine that it is fake, (unless tongue in cheek) I'm out. But, reality tv is 100% just regular, narrative tv... no harm no foul.

I happened to catch my old HS playing a small school district tournament game a few yrs ago and we had the ball in this situation. Got it to the D-1 recruit 3 pointer made at buzzer and tied it up, went to 2 OT. We win and went on to win state. Tough district.

Never could get into reality TV.

There’s no such thing as a “reality show”, as alluded to in this thread. And in any of the type of shows being discussed here, most viewers don’t care who wins, anyway - viewers want to see who loses. Things haven’t changed a lot since olden times: if a random farmer came into the village and observed a tarring and feathering underway, he wouldn’t care what the victim did - he just wants to watch the tarring and feathering. Reality tv is a lot like that.

I haven't watched the shows referenced in this thread.

The last time I was outraged by TV was when Dr. Oz was the guest host of Jeopardy and gave a contestant credit for "What is brotherly love?" with the clue was "Agape."

"Philia" is brotherly love.

The worst reality show I've ever watched was called 'Bait Car'. Cops leave a Cadillac Escalade running and unattended in obvious crime area, and see who takes the bait? Cops also have a remote kill switch that shuts off and locks doors of 'stolen' car 2 blocks away, and nab the the thief(s) that go for the free joy ride. Usually some dumb kids that take the bait. The plot never changes of course, and I think it was cancelled after only a few episodes.

It's a reality show. The fact that it exists and has an audience offends and outrages me.

It must be me .......
I always thought that watching reality shows , as staged as they were ,
I gained a philosophy,
"why watch some one else live their lives, when I could live mine", or stupid "people tricks for money"
My cable company gave me the deluxe TV package , I haven't watched TV in about 7 years. since I realized Judge Judy followed the same story line as Robot Chicken.

I hear they are bringing back the Jersey Shore show. I think they should do a new "survival" type show with it. Drop off a typical middle aged working/middle class man to live with them for a month. Tell him he gets a million dollars if he can last the whole month without leaving or losing his mind.

Australian Survivor. Liz (the most annoying player in history) was a goner so the producers introduced a "twist" to save her. Totally bogus.
