So would $300 be a good price on a hwy 1 tele(mint cond)?

    Oh, yeah.

Try to make sure it isn't stolen, but even so, they have sold for that price and strangely, sometimes they get almost twice that.

Do they still make those? I have a Highway strat from the first year they sold them. I never play it because I'm just not a strat guy. But I can't get rid of it. It's such an exceptional guitar and the neck is excellent. I've played higher priced Fenders that aren't as nice as that strat.
I think I'd jump on a Highway tele if I came across one at a price of $300. I'd love that light blue version with a rosewood neck.

I paid $300 for a MIM Tele at a pawn shop and $100 (eBay) for Highway 1 guts and swapped them out. Great tone and excellent quality guitar. I wanted a HW1 but couldn't find one under $500 in Michigan. So IMO yes, its a great deal if its not hot!

I have bought three used HWY-1 guitars. Two cost $450 and one cost $400. The $400 was kind of odd. It was a Strat with H-S-S pickups. I paid extra for a case for each.

I love HWY-1's. $300 was a smoking deal. Was it is ok shape or was it really beat up? Just wondering.

By the way....all three of mine came from the used section on GC.com.

The stores describe them differently so you have to search "highway" and "HWY". They always have several Tele's and several Strats. Some show up at $399. Call the store and ask the managers to hold, play and describe the guitar. I've never been screwed.

I love HWY-1 guitars. I love the big head stocks on the Strats. The H-S-S Strat is gone. The other two are keepers.

They're fun to horse around with, and I like to polish the bodies up.

I replace the pickups, eventually, every single one. I like mounting a new USACG neck on one and getting accustomed to the neck, before it moves on to a USACG body. Wish the fretwire was smaller on the ones after mid 2005 but you can always remove material you can't add it.

You do realize in the time it took you to post your query, and wait for a reply you could have bought the H1, and been playing it right now?

I'm almost afraid to ask, but what ever happen to Old Fuzzy. I was absent from the forum a year or so where he was very active and when I came back he was gone????

BTW-I love my 03 Hwy 1. I bought it in 2006 and it was sitten around the music shop until then. I had been looken for a tele for years and when I played this one, I knew it was the one. Platefire
