I've never heard this as general "rule" - except maybe from rank beginner metal players.

The LP forum ... it seems to come up over there. IIRC But yeah, not a believer myself.

you know, I would bet that most records played on the radio when I was a kid, 60's-70's, were Gibson guitars played through fender amps, deluxes and twins. they sounded pretty good to me!

I think you can add Michael Bloomfield to that crowd. I believe he played a les Paul thru a twin. I have a Marshall dsl, a fender 68 Princeton Custom and drri. With 2 Gibson’s a Gretsch and 2 strats If I had to go down to 1 amp ,it would’ve the drri and it wouldn’t even be close.

Or what...it'll explode. Seriously, that's about the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

    A bass player?
Why would you even talk to a bass player?
Or a drummer for that matter. :)

Well, in all fairness there is a BB Preamp pedal between the guitar and the amp
That might have something to do with the Marshally sound

I mean, it's not like putting diesel in a gasoline engine.

It's like putting race fuel in your drag car!
