Humbuckered My Strat!

I like the idea of an HH Stratocaster. No neck dive. And it's more graceful-looking than a Gibson SG.

And I love it! I’ve long wanted a HH strat and this doesn’t disappoint. I have another Gilmour pickguard for this guitar that I can interchange.
Some specs;
-Jumbo frets and 12” radius
-Alder body (very light)
-Wired up with Toneriders, Rocksong in bridge and a Alnico 4 in the Neck.
-50s wiring with one of the magnets flipped to get a quacky out of phase tone in the middle
- 2 volumes pots and 1 tone

I think the Toneriders sound fantastic especially the Alnico 4 neck

Your guitar looks great! Nice job. I recently put a set of Seymour Duncan Red Devil pickups into my Strat. The guitar sounds like a Les Paul now , but it still looks like a Strat.

That is a project that is on my bucket list. I am still debating bridge choices, but I have a Seymour Duncan hotrod set that needs a home. Fender came out with a 'Big Apple" HH strat that I really liked. Perhaps maybe later this year? And yes, 1 volume and 1 tone only.

I have a Gibson 490 as my Tele bridge pickup, fantastic variation in tone with a standard Tele bridge pickup. The two together, treble, twang and bass all together!

Regarding practicing guitar several hours daily: I'd known teenagers who first picked up the guitar at 14 years old who became as proficient as Clapton within a year or so. There are such people who are neurologically hard-wired to play ("naturals"). Hendrix was one. Eddie Van Halen was another. I wasn't so blessed.

I love HH guitars- they're so versatile (and they don't have that pesky middle pickup that gets in the way of my picking). Here are my two HH "Strats":

Why didn't you just get an SG?

Is that even a question?

An SG (at that scale length) can NEVER sound like a Strat (at it's scale length) even with the same pickups. It is not an SG just because it is HH.

My HSH Strat has the ability in the two and four positions to get the famous Strat quack by using the outer coil of the humbucker with the middle pickup. And it can do both humbuckers in the mid position. There's not an SG on the planet I'd trade it for (unless I was allowed to immediately sell it, which I'd do).

I put a set of Bootstrap Buckers Vintage Clean in my 1988 American Standard Strat. Really wonderful pickups, but I find humbuckers to be boring compared to Strat pickups. It was a fun project, though.

Yeah, I'm a major SG fan but there's a big difference in hardware, layout, and sound. Not the same but any measure.

Might be something I'll try.

Who did you order the neck from? Also, what’s the nut width and thickness at the 1st and 12th. I’m trying to build a partscaster as a back up for my G&L Legacy with the old #1 neck and am having a hard time matching the specs.

Lots of nice guitars in the other posts. Here's mine. The orange strat on the left is my first solo build where I set the neck & bridge myself. Body & hardware from Guitar Fetish, licensed neck from Strat-O-Sphere. The pickguard came with GF "patent applied for" style humbuckers with the metal plates, but I didn't bond. Tried a Squier HSS pickguard but it still didn't thrill me. Then I found some generics on EBAY marketed as "Hexbuckers", each pole piece is individually adjustable via hex socket.

The black strat on the right is built for a neck I should never have purchased. 1) It's a HM Strat neck, .08" too wide for a standard strat pocket. 2) Some [expletive deleted] wannabe genius had removed the nut AND FILED ON THE NUT SLOT WITH A RAT-TAIL FILE!!! What a nightmare. A friend helped me fill the nut slot with superglue to get it sort of rectangular shaped again. I installed a nut and bought a Squier body, routed it a hair to fit the neck. The pickguard is another GF special, sold on the cheap because the faux tortoise-shell veneer was peeling. The mottled orange color is what was left on the pickguard after I pulled the veneer off. Not exactly pretty but the guitar really booms. 1 humbucker, 1 volume and that's it.

Easy answer to this one, because I find SGs to be the most unattractive of all guitars. And my strat is perfect in my hands
