I know that a regular fender type single coil causes problems if you put it too close to the strings.
I have a 2 'bucker tele and I have the neck pup as close to the strings as I can get it.
    I don't notice any problems.
Am I missing something or is pickup height just not an issue with 'buckers ?

The majority of the magnetic pull of a 'bucker is side to side. With Fender type SC's it's top to bottom, or front to back of the guitar. So, in theory, you can get buckers closer. I like 'em lower.

    Hot Bridge

Well,I have a much hotter bridge pup paired with it.
The reason that I have it so close is I want more treble out of it and I split the coils and am trying to get the max volume out of the split positions.
Duncan Jazz is in neck,split,P-Rail in the bridge.
    The split positions give me:
    1) 1 coil
    2) 1 coil & the single blade
    3) 1 coil & the P90

I've always been told that humbuckers can go pretty much as close as you want, without interfering with the string vibration.

    OK

I have it very close and I don't hear any strange sounds.
Treble goes away when you lower it.

3/32" is a good start but the pickups on this bad boy are way lower:

I set my pickups by ear. Sometimes it takes me weeks, but sometimes I get lucky on the first try.
