I'm amazed someone nicked these really, so damn ugly, even for an LP.

    From mi news:
Just a week after launching The Witness hailed by Guitar.com as possibly 'the greatest guitar promo video ever', Gibson and US retailer Sweetwater have suffered the theft of an entire pallet load of 13 of its brand new Gibson Adam Jones 1979 Les Paul Custom Silverbursts.

Gibson reports that the Tool guitarist's signature models were stolen from a Sweetwater Music truck at the Flying J Travel Center in Whiteland, IN on 30th October. The truck was en route to Fort Wayne, IN, the headquarters of Sweetwater Sound.

'Somehow out of a truck full of guitars, this ONE pallet was singled out and stolen at a truck stop,' says Sweetwater Chief Supply Chain and Merchandising Officer, Phil Rich. 'Totalling close to $95,000 in guitars, we feel this person/s knew exactly what to look for and when.'

'These guitars were the dream guitars of 13 Gibson and Adam Jones fans, who had been patiently waiting for them to be delivered,” says Cesar Gueikian of Gibson. 'We have decided to publish the serial numbers of the 13 stolen guitars and are appealing to all of Gibson’s fans to keep an eye out for them and let us know if they surface. Our fans should ask any third-party sellers for a serial number before purchasing to be sure they are not being sold one of the stolen guitars.'

'Our loyal customers have been waiting a long time to receive these guitars and will be devastated,' says David Fuhr, SVP of The Sweetwater Experience. 'We hope Gibson and Sweetwater’s tight-knit community of guitarists will be able to help us recover the stolen items and that the people responsible for the theft are caught.'

It is just a week since Gibson aired its remarkable video celebrating the collaboration with Tool guitarist Adam Jones and launching a multi-year partnership with the new Adam Jones 1979 Les Paul Custom guitar, a limited-edition guitar from Gibson Custom Shop Murphy Lab that recreates Adam’s #1 guitar, his original Silverburst 1979 Gibson Les Paul. Upon release, all of the guitars immediately sold out worldwide, the manufacturer claims.

Following are the serial numbers for the Adam Jones 1979 Les Paul Custom guitars affected:

Sheesh you guys are tough customers.

Anyway, I can't afford one but if I were to buy one I wouldn't do so because of the Tool Connection.

Because James Iha of the Smashing pumpkins played those too.

The way that guy [Trogly] speaks, it sounds like his audience is composed of 5th graders. There's a decidedly Nickelodeon vibe there. Hard to listen to.

I can hear his shtick [Jerry Seinfeld voice]: "Could SOMEbody please tell me why electric guitar finishes are call sunbursts? I mean--it's a GUITAR--not a gigantic ball of burning gas in outer space! And why a BURST? The only thing that's busted is the buyer, after spending all their money on one!"

With everything else going on right now this is sort of funny but Sweetwater or anyone who had a Silverburst on order doesn't deserve this hassle.
When I was a kid there was a local polka band whose guitar player had a Silverburst. It was gorgeous.
Saw Tool in the early '90s, AJ was playing a Silverburst then.
    Of course I want one.

Now I know that there is something uglier than the original Silverburst, the Adam Jones burst. Too bad about the theft.

I’ve played some good Norlin-era guitars, and some bad ones, too.

Not every player—famous or otherwise—is going to own a “Proper” (whatever that means) Gibson from a “Proper” (whatever that means) era.

My favorite guitar I’ve ever owned is a MIM Fender...that doesn’t match up to many people’s standards...and those people can kiss either one of my butt cheeks (their choice). I like what I like, much like Adam Jones and his Norlin-era Silverburst Les Paul.

Everybody needs to get their collective panties out of a collective wad and understand that some people might like something that they don’t like...I dislike silverburst (and Antigua and neon and...) finishes, but c’mon—some people like them and it’s not a personal affront. Chill out.

As a lifelong Allas* Cowboys fan, I approve this message.

*(this is not a typo...the team plays no Defense, so they don’t deserve a D in their name...)

that’s still a Tool connection. Didn’t Iha play in A Perfect Circle with Maynard James Keenan of Tool? I don’t remember Iha playing that guitar until he was in APC. And as good as Iha is, Corgan is the true talent in SP. Adam Jones > James Iha in my opinion.

Those original guitars used to be soooo cheap.

Ugly and heavy = the girl that doesNt get asked out/sold at the used guitar store.

And they couldn’t have been more than six or eight years old when I started seeing them.

I remember seeing a couple on a rack with two Dan Armstrong see-through Lucite guitars with all the interchangeable pick ups and they were all in that store for a year and a half at least .

I Love some of those old Norlins!
    Not all of them.
I own two that play like Buttter.
But, yeah, played some others that simply didn't "have it".

    Not really...

From "Hummer" on he can be seen using his silverburst Les Paul. Which apparently was his drop D guitar.
