I got to see Howlin and Hubert in a small blues club in Vanvouver B.C.
back in the early seventies.
Had never heard of him but paid my five bucks admission.
He did two shows.
I left the club knowing who Howlin Wolf was.
As a double bonus I got to witness the mastery of Hubert Sumlin.
Pinetop might of been on piano, but my memory is foggy on that part.

Yes, it's a Firebird. This entire performance is fascinating. I ~think~ it took place during one of the Newport folk Festivals. At one point, Son House is in the audience, drunk, and heckling Wolf. Wolf reads him the riot act.

I think it was done in Europe, as part of the Folk/Blues tour. I don't know if it is in this video, but Howlin Wolf really ragged on Son House, who was a few feet away and so very drunk, as always.

Was that really a Firebird?

How could anyone in the world sing blues better than this? Howlin Wolf was one of the greatest musicians of all time, in my opinion.
