Hello, fellas! I've been playing guitar and other instruments for 11 years. Formerly a Gibson fanboy, I'm becoming enamored with both the subtlety of Fender guitars and the way they make you play them to get the tone you like.

I'm not new to Fender style guitars, however. I've had 3 MIM Std. Strats and a Classic '50s Strat that I just sold. I've technically owned a Tele, but it didn't give me the Tele 'experience' as it was a Blacktop HH model. I quickly sold it, since I didn't necessarily need another humbucker based axe.

So, as for the reason I'm here. I just ordered a Classic Series '60s Tele! Olympic White w/ Mint Pickguard. While googling/researching these guitars I noticed there were many advocates of this model here as well as a wealth of information on Telecasters in general. I'm here to learn.

Welcome! I think you will love the Tele. This place is full of us who never realized how wonderful a Tele is until we gave it a fair chance and never looked back!

Thanks for the welcome, guys! I think I'm going to love the Tele as well. There is something utilitarian about them. Most of them are very basic beasts with great versatility. What made me jump on one is I noticed that just about every band I've listened was playing a Tele somewhere in their material. I usually can't say the same for Strats and Les Pauls.

Cabin Fever, in case you do not know about it and have not been there go over to Lee's on Shreveport-Barksdale highway on monday nights to the Jerry Beach Monday Night Blues Jam. Jerry uses a tele almost all the time there and is great on guitar, it is a jam so if you want to you can talk to jerry and sit in with them on a few songs if the blues is your style.

Yeah, I've been to the Monday Night Blues Jam quite a few times in the past. I've sat in over there 2 or 3 times a few years back. Jerry's a great player and so are most of the other guys who frequent the Monday night jam. It's nice to see a horn section over there as well. I saw a really good left-handed Tele player at Lee's a couple of weeks ago in the Cole Vosberry Trio (probably mispelled that name). My old band mate plays bass for that group.

Blues isn't my main style, but I still enjoy listening to and playing it. Shreveport is actually a decent place to hear blues bands. Have you ever been to the Highland Jazz & Blues Festival?

Good to see another Shreveport dweller on here.

Yes I have been to the Highland festival, also go down to Natchitoches to the Jazz and Blues festival down there each year. I know who you are talking about the left hand tele player, I know Cole and Robin as well as most of the other musicians around here. Do you play regularly with anyone? I dont play with anyone at this time, I am just a wannabe, took lessons from Jerry a while back, he is not only a great player but a great teacher. Do you know Jimmy Johnson, he plays with Billy Morris? Jimmy is also one of the best there is, of course also one of the best around here or anywhere else is James Burton. There is a couple more guys on here from Shreveport or Bossier area.

No, I'm working on putting together a band right now. Working on an Indie/Alt. Country band sort of like Wilco. I've played around years back, but back then it was really heavy rock. I think my dad took lessons from Jimmy Johnson back like 20-30 years ago.

New dinosaur on the block

Welcome to TDPRI !!

Hi, I'm new here and was pleased to see there's someone even older than me.

Been a Strat fan most of my life, but recently got my hands on a Custom Shop '59 Telecaster NOS and at the grand ol' age of 63 I'm in love (don't anybody tell the wife), so simple - SO SO GOOD.

Somebody made mention of James Burton. Last I heard was he had a really bad accident, something to do with some farm machinery, has he fully recovered now? We don't get much news about great guys like him, only overblown idiots who tear up hotel rooms and the like.

Hope I get some replys from you guys over there,
best regards, Cliff Hanson (UK).

Actually James Burton had an accident while working at his house falling off a ladder and injuring his leg and got some type of infection from it, went to hospital for a short time but is all well and he is doing very good, touring a lot and still picing with the best of them. James is a great guy and does a heck of a lot for the school kids here by donating time and lots of guitars to schools each year. Just celebrated his 72nd birthday on the 21st and is still going strong.

Can't Sang?

Thanks for your reply and putting me in the picture about James Burton, nice to hear he is ok. I didn't know about the good stuff he does for the kids - but hearing of it didn't surprise me. From film and interviews that I've seen and read in the past he seems like a down to earth sort of guy.
Are you into any particular genre of music, or just anything where there's a Tele involved?
Hey, what's this "can't sang"? I'm sure you could if you put your mind to it - a friend of mine, who is a really great guitar player but doesn't do much on the vocal front said to me "in every guitar player there is a voice trying to get out", just transfer what you do on guitar to your vocal chords and let it out!
All the best 4 now, Cliff Hanson (UK).

Gibbo/Tele marriage

Welcome...from the BR area!

Hi there, thanks for the welcome (it's been nice to get a few of those from you guys over the pond).
Got an eyeful of your '66 Tele with a gibbo humbucker at the neck - bet that kicks up a bit of a storm when you crank it up - who's your influence for that?
Keep well, regards from not so sunny UK, Cliff Hanson.

B-benders.

Welcome, I've got a Classic 60's with a B-bender in it, very nice.

Hi, I take it that would be a 60's re-issue (just guessing)? Anything with a B-bender in, here in the UK is pretty rare. So who's your influence with that? Only guy I can think of would be Danny Gatton - if you can play like him when you coming over to tour?
Keep well, talk again soon, best regards, Cliff Hanson (UK).
