Darn I'm missing out, I hated Joe Rogen when he became the host of the "Man Show"...his delivery seemed to hint he didn't know the show was supposed to be satire. šŸ˜
Seems I missed a few things about him over the last couple of decades. 🤣

No way can you sustain a career doing what he did to make a name for himself, you’re always fighting to top what you’ve already done. Eventually people lose interest or wind up disgusted, and there go your ratings.
You make a good point, but the content of the show has developed significantly from his shock jock days. It’s just not that show at all anymore.

Im uninformed. What three things did this person do, that were unique, and warranted his attention?

He was a ā€œShock Jock,ā€ meaning a radio personality that drew attention by pushing the boundaries of good taste. It’s hilarious for the first ten minutes, but I sure couldn’t sit through a full broadcast.

I haven’t watched a full show in years, just tidbits of interviews that others have posted on the forums.

I had no idea he was still relevant?
Nobody I know and care about, cares about Howard Stern.

I do recall 25 or 30 years ago when he was on the radio there were guys driving pickups drinking beers listening to Stern.

Who is his demographic if not drunk drivers?
Hops this isn’t offensive?
Really never hear him or hear about him any more, I guess not since I was on a roofing crew.

Actually my wife has commented that he was funny, but she never listens or even mentions him.
I must be out of an American loop.
Am I culturally poor for it?

As a listener since he started simulcasting on WYSP in Philly, it has been interesting to watch him evolve into a Grandfather in his 70s. His shock jock days are long behind him and he has turned into a great interviewer. Him going through the loss of his father and now his Mom’s old age has been really compelling listening. Also, he picked up guitar a few years ago and it has been funny hearing him kvetch about callouses and humidity and all sorts of guitar related things. Suffice to say, he’s not exactly a learn some chords and just have fun kinda guy.

The original age demographic that he appealed to in his early days now goes online today for that type of humor...and the young aren't paying to listen to a radio personality.
The adults either grew up or the expense of avoiding child support payments has made satellite radio too expensive to afford. šŸ˜‰
Before any Stern fans complain...I'm just channeling the man himself. Crass and tasteless. šŸ˜‰

I really haven't listened either outside of popular culture references. But how I think of it, Howard Stern feels like Frank Zappa and Joe Rogan like Richard Nixon of broadcasting (radio/social media).

The little that I understand.

Stern humiliated Dana Plato on his show the day before she committed suicide. He's overpaid scum in my book. Glad his show was cancelled.

Stern hasn’t been a shock jock for 20 yrs at least .

Made his bones in the time since with his interviews .

IMHO Rogan has plenty of future ahead.
He seems to be the bar as far as podcasts go.
Inspired a whole herd of copycats ...

Oh, you’re confusing little Joe with Marc Maron. Who’s actually bailing on his own in a couple months.

Bro Joe ? Got nothing that would be good to express here so …

In the words of Joe Rogan, after he says something completely inflammatory, or totally false -

ā€œBut what do I know ? I’m just a comedian !ā€

I’ve seen your standup act Joe …

I haven't listened to Stern in many years. When he was on FM radio I used to listen occasionally, but not something I'd listen to all day long. When he left broadcast and went to Sirius that was the last time I heard him. I've had Sirius the past 7 years or so, but I've never tuned into Stern. I hear a lot of people say he's a great interviewer now, and he may be, but I guess now I'll never know šŸ˜€

Man it took 20 years but the controversial Howard Stern has reported been cancelled by SiriusXM.

Apparently the show costs is outweighing the investment.

Still not seeing anything official but where there’s smoke etc. At any rate, not sure how Sirius could fund that kind of deal anyway. Like most folks I got a subscription with my new car and did not renew when time was up.

I was actually more interested in Conan’s Sirius shows than Stern’s, but Stern is a pretty good interviewer and well past the shock-jock days. Heck, compared to what comprises most of the podcast world he’s Edward R. Murrow.

I don’t subscribe to Sirius, but a number of YouTube live music performance clips from his shows are tremendous. I hope that somehow continues.
I agree about the band and artist performances that he had in his studios. Those are some of my favorite you tube videos. Metallica, Springsteen, etc.

Some of the associated conversation he has with the stars degrades to his usual attitude.
