However I can’t figure out how to get the old ones off. There’s two screws on the back and I assumed that would do the trick. But, the shaft is bigger than the bushing so I can’t remove the tuner one I’ve got it unscrewed. I’d prefer not to destroy the old tuners when taking them off, so anyone have an idea here?

Maybe some "Gentle Persuasion" is required.... once you get it past the lip of the bushing, twist and pull, or switch to a smaller dowel.
You may not be able to get them out completely unscathed, there may be a scratch or two...or three....but that's what buffers are for.

I've never had an issue. If it needs coercion, use mallet as above.

So as it turns out all came out easily except the low e, which was the only one I tried previously.

to get that one out I just squeezed it a little with pliers and then jammed it through. New tuners are on, locking tuners are so easy to restring!

My guess is that some good natured fool spread the top of that low E tuner by prying on the slot some time ago.
