hi there!im going to paint my ash tele body soon.but i want a see through blonde color.so that i can still see the nice ash grain.but how do i do this?when i mostly paint a solid color i use carpaint, and that work very well.
but now i want a see through paint!is it the same like carpaint but sprayed thinner coats?because when i spray with a solid car paint i think the ash grain will be covered immediatly  i have no acces to stores like stewmac or something like that as i live in belgium and here are no stores like stewmac overhere(a shame)and they dont ship overseas due to safety restrictions...
i hope somebody can help me..
many thanks in advance and kind regards from belgium ;) when the body is ready i will post some pics of it 8)

I think you will be wanting to spray clear paint that has about a third part color. This should prevent the paint from being opaque. Test it on scrap lumber first. I just guessed on the ratio.

If you just want a tint, but have it translucent, you can mix aniline dye, reduced in lacquer thinner, with clear lacquer to achieve a see-through color.

Try Stew-Mac again

They used to have powdered stains that would easily ship overseas. I use dyes that are really supposed to be opaque, but run a thin mixture as has already been stated.

Hi Flupke,
You might want to try ''Clou waterbeits'', You can mix it if you want to achieve the color you like.
I live in Holland and i had the same questions. I went to a good paint supply shop where they had this stuff. It worked real well. I painted my guitar sunburst and i used Clou yellow combined with oak to get the right amber color. It's offered in powder form. Really easy to use and all the basic colors are there.
I used carpaint as well, Motip in spraycans, from Dregema.

stain

I used an orange wood stain on a start and came very close to Fender's "Sunset Orange Transparant". Several compainies offer many colors, including some blonde-ish ones. Just be careful to choose the right clearcoat

 Yes, mixing colored paint doesn't work that way. It's much cheaper to get help than to buy new paint every day. ;)
