Hey guys! Im trying to replicate the look of a bakelite pick guard on my Baja tele. The one it has is gloss/shiny so I'm wondering if it would be possible to spray it with a matte nitro spray? good idea or just leave it as is?

    Heres what I'm looking at:

NOTE: Im really not wanting to buy a 50 dollar bakelite pick guard lol. WAY too much for a piece of plastic (in my opinion).

Also another question...is there any surface prep I should do to the PG? or is it fine to spray as is?

Yes, a 400 grit wet and dry with water, then 800 It should make it matte without soraying

With a new pickguard especially from another factory source screwholes may misaligned. Same with Strats - you may have to be prepared to redrill some holes carefully. . Mark with a sharpie through the new guard

I just want it to be like the AVRI 52 tele. I noticed its just a semi-gloss black. no lines :(

    +1 on buffing up garolite/bakelite.

I didn't create this one, but I did reshape it, and slightly buffed it out. I found my unfinished Esquire guard here on ebay...same material as the Gretsch guard, price is very reasonable.

UPDATE: I went with the AVRI guard. It seems like the best for the money, and I like the look of the semi-gloss. Thanks for the help!!
