I am having a hard time figuring out how to line up a set of kluson style tuners on a 3x3 headstock.

The holes for the posts are not in a straight line, but on a bit of an arc.

is there a trick to getting these to look good?

On a side note, I finally got a neck amber mix that I like, and dropped the neck on concrete, messing up the corner.

On a head with curved sides like that I usually line them up with the side

With straight sides I lay a straight edge next to them.

I install them so the button shafts are 90 degrees in relation to the edge of the headstock. Which means three on one side are all a little bit misaligned with their neighbors. But it looks balanced and provides equal finger room all the way around the button.

PRS installs theirs straight across; i.e., the button shafts for the tuners are all parallel in relation to one another.

Personally, I like all of the shafts being parallel, which means you would line the backs up to be parallel with a straightedge. But feel free to do as you wish.

min not following you on the shafts lining up.
How would I go about doing this? The headstock is already drilled for the posts.

Maybe I am misunderstanding what you mean.

Your 3rd picture shows the bottom 4 tuners pretty well lined up with the straightedge, but the top two are twisted outward slightly. That makes the tuning shafts look crooked when viewed from the front.

Basically, take that straightedge and make sure it is centered between the tuners. Or you could draw a line down the exact center of the peghead. Then, make sure the top and bottom corner of each plate are equidistant from the straightedge or line. At that point, all the tuner shafts should be parallel.

You've got the tuners on the wrong side of the head. With the guitar standing neck up, the keys should sit above the gear mechanism. Now as far as getting them to line up perfectly...no ideas.

In other words...shafts parallel to the nut.

sure wish I had read this sooner.
I drilled one hole for each tuner already.

this place is great, so many helpful people.
