I Scour craigslist n FB Marketplace every day. I buy basket cases most of the time. For me the fun is the restoration. I sell or trade when I have too many. I have 25 right now. I am starting to Trade for tube amps now

Over 20yrs, I've probably owned 15-20 different electric guitars, and I'm pretty sure I only bought two of them brand new. Now I'm down to 3 and will stay that way unless some incredible deal comes along.

Similar numbers for me, I don't think I'll bother doing a detailed analysis. Some guitars are new and some are used. Out of an average 5 for 10 years maybe 1 or 2 are used.

Actually probably a few more than that, but there was a 10 year period when I only bought 1 or 2 guitars total.

It’s fairly sporadic right now, however, I aspire to one day get on the same schedule as @blowtorch. :D

Been going crazy lately, probably bought, sold, or traded a dozen guitars in the last three months. I already have another guitar in my sights for later this week.

    Vantage Witch, 1981
    Marlin Sidewinder 1988
    Squier Telecaster 1993
    Squier Stratocaster 20??
    Fender Lite Ash Telecaster 2006

I've lost count of the used guitars and other instruments I've bought & sold since 1978.

I ebb and flow on buying new guitars. I’ll buy two one year, skip a year, buy one, skip three years, buy four.

No, made in Korea. It played like a dream straight out of the box. It hurt to sell it, my ex-wife squandered the money I sent for my kids' school term fees and I had to pay them again. I could have made a good blues song out of that.
I eventually bought another (used) but it's never felt as good to play.

Five electric, four acoustic, one bass. Mostly through GC or Musicians Friend. Since I do not have access to a lot of variety, their return policies make all the difference. I can order one in, play it in my rig for awhile and then pay shipping back if it doesn't work out.

In thirty-plus years of playing, I’ve only bought two new guitars and one new amp...I generally buy used.

EDIT: I won a new guitar, too...but sold it 30 minutes later.

    I haven't bought myself a NEW guitar since 1999.

I buy one or several USED guitars probably once every 2-3 months.

That would totally drive me up the wall, too much work. I like to mod my guitars, changing something or other, if not the pickups some piece of hardware that might work better or something cosmetic. I take my time to do it, but with that many guitars it would just drive me crazy.

I have 6 guitars; 2 of them I bought new and that was at least 12+ years ago ... 3 I bought used, and one was given to me, and all of those were at least 12+ years ago also.

Conclusion: time to go buy a new guitar!

Rarely. I think the last new guitar was about 3 years ago. I ended up selling it for a substantial loss a couple years later. I like to buy used so I can get most of what I put into it if I sell it. I rarely even buy pedals new although I'll occasionally buy one that I really want if there isn't a huge price difference between new and used.

Aside from the money, it's part of the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle mentality that I've trying to do more and more of.

Last year I purchased a new Yamaha acoustic for live work, prior to that 1992 a Strat that I still own. I prefer to buy previous loved or neglected guitars.

Interesting question - I haven't considered his before - looks like:
    2017 - bought a G&L tribute Bluesboy via SDOTD @ MF
2015 - 12 string epi ordered through GC
2008? picked up a locally built flat-top via List of Craig (shopworn but never sold - I think it qualifies as "new")

The rest have washed ashore via CL, eBay, "classified ads" used aisle @ local stores & dumpsters

    Peace - Deeve
